Agree that there is most likely a stud welded on the back so you should find the nut on the inside and check that. For peace of mind I would remove the fitting from the hull to make sure there are no cracks, corrosion, obvious permanent distortion or deterioration of any backing pad before resealing and tightening.I noticed this the other day,

I'm fairly sure there shouldn't be a gap there?
That got me wondering how its attached? is it just bonded to the bow? I couldn't see any through bolts.
