Hi I was very lucky to be given as a present, SAILOR'S WORD-BOOK BY ADMIRAL W. H. SMYTH. A dictionary of nautical terms, alphabetical some 14,000 Nautical terms.This is a very good read and worth cashing in those Christmas book tokens for. You've been reading the Volante yacht postings?

I liked their web site a great deal, but didn't think much of his journalistic efforts as to etymology of nautical terms, many of which are incorrect

Etymology is history of words/phrases and how they came to be.......I Think. Brendan's probably got a lot more ologies than me. So I my be wrong and just made myself look like a right prat!
