Boats 'For Sale' that are'nt...

I'm on the hunt to replace a boat I sold in September, but as anyone else who is engaged in this fruitless task will tell you - there are no decent boats available. A particular issue is Brokers who advertise a boat as For Sale but when you enquire, and they eventually answer the phone or reply to your email its "....Oh that, we sold that ages ago"! So why don't they delist it then? Lazy so and so's. On the same topic are Brokers who come up on internet searches as having a particular boat, but when you open their website they are showing boats that are labelled as Sold. What good is that to me? Not sure which is worse, but its a waste of time and money.
 
If brokers removed all the boats they’ve sold from their websites......they’d be left with just 2! ? I think it’s to give the impression they have lots to offer/lead generation.

some sites are almost like a historical record of boats sold. It is frustrating

Why dont say on here what you want and budget , someone may be thinking of selling.

As I am new to boats these old adverts help with my research and probably left online to suck me in to what stock is really available. Based on River Crouch I, so far, think a Beneteau Series 9 Fly suits a beginner couple for economical coast and river trips of a few weeks duration. Advised to get Day Skipper using own boat makes sense.

It’s worth signing up to brokers newsletters- some are better than others. NYA email weekly all new additions. Some have FB pages where they post new listings so you can get notifications hth
 
I wonder what planet brokers actually live on - I have recently contacted 4 to get further details on boats they have listed, and only one actually replied. I am sure the owners cant be happy, if their broker cant be a***d to respond to enquiries
 
I have seen ads on The Yacht Market with 1 photo (and these aren't a £50 dinghy but a £100,000 yacht) and something like - "Sunprinfair 50 in excellent condition with Volvo engines."
And that's IT.

If I had a boat with a broker and actually saw my boat advertised like that I'd be on the phone asking what the f*ck they thought their fee was supposed to cover!

Perhaps the way to improve the situation is for you and the others is to print names.
 
But that doesn't account for the lack of response to an enquiry. If they were sharp enough to inflate their supposed stock, why wouldn't they get back to an enquiry. Even if it is for a boat they don't have, it is a contact from someone who has funds and wants a boat.
 
This was a major problem when we were looking at boats in the SoF three years ago. Despite having arranged viewings before travelling, once we were there we heard "oh, that's just sold.....but we have this" before being pointed towards something entirely different and unsuitable. Turned out to be a very frustrating trip despite extensive planning and arrangements having been made. In the end, we bought in Scotland!
