Boats.co.uk team up with Princess

"PMYS latest published accounts, they made a gross margin of 5.9% (and lost £2.2m). Thats a very small margin"

I fear that EBY will erode that margin further still. Look at what they did to Fairline. Devalued it, took what they could get out of it and walked. PMYS will need to control them so that the value of Princess is preserved. Unlike Fairline

IMO its a very bad move for Princess and PMYS

This is what is going to happen, So eventually we land up only with one Major UK builder.

We went to SIBS a few years ago, looking to buy a new boat. Looked at Fairline & where offered a deal, looked at Princess & were offered a deal that counted them out, then bought an Absolute from Trevor at a massive discount because he was de stocking the brand to sell something a little, erm, bigger. Remember thinking if princess had talked the same game as EBY re PX etc, we may not have got to look at the Abs, which with hindsite would have been a bad thing as its a great boat. I think EBY (cant get used to the new name) will be great for princess with their understanding of PX, the sales staff on the princess stand that day left is feeling they were taking the 'P' TBH.

Is there anything in the current Ferreti line up -San Lorenzo -Aprea Mare line up ( your mooring ) cannot fit .
That you would would fancy ?
Assuming they can meet your not unreasonable semi custom spec .
There's a 7 am to from Gatwick /Stanstead to Naples .Aprea Mare are nice people to deal with it run by a owner / occupier
Who bought it back off Ferreti Incidentally -deal directly with the factory owner passionate about boats .
.Real craftsmen .
Med home port means you can be brave and look at Italy ?
I agree Portofino. I'm just talking about the general market behaviour, not me in particular
Apreamare's Maestro 82 is a boat I've always liked. With some customisation it could be excellent. But being an unsecured creditor of a micro company to the tune of €3m or so isn't a comfortable place to be

But why were Essex offering you such a cracking deal? Because the Fairline wasn't as desirable as the Princess.

If something's worth a pound, priced at 3 pounds and the bloke says he'll knock 50% off is it a better deal than someone else selling something worth £2.50, priced at 3 pounds who will only knock off 60p? Even though the Fairline was offered cheap you still didn't buy it.

Yes, Essex / BCU know how to deal but how will they get on without the head start enjoyed on a less desirable product? We will allow you a phenomenal p/x on an over priced car that we can't sell. We would be a lot harder on something priced to sell with three people queuing up to buy it.

As I've said before the one potential benefit is if BCU are better geared up to sell P/X boats without the handcuffs placed on The current Princess retail outfit. Having to trade them out means less money in the deal.

Henry :)

If buying a boat to keep in UK and sell on in UK, most people prefer FairPrinSeekSEaline. The used market for Azimut Ferretti Astondoa RodmanMuse et al is much thinner
Agreed. No way I'd own a Ferretti in the UK because I'd never be able to re-sell it here. When you're buying a boat, the first thing you have to think about is how and where you're going to re-sell it and if you're keeping a boat in the UK, a well known Brit brand makes far more sense

Right, but what % of UK builders boats are sold to stay in UK? Noted, it depends if you are taking the view of the UK owner, or the UK builder.

Well I'm not particularly interested in what the builder's view is! It's just sensible for an owner to think about how he's going to dispose of a boat before he buys it and some boats sell better in some markets and less well in other markets.

??? I don't quite understand, are you saying they didn't say that? Or that this doesn't happen? I was there!
Mmm... I just re-read what I wrote, and I struggle to see how you could understand either of these alternatives from my previous post.
In fact, I neither suggested that they didn't say that, nor that this can't happen.
I simply said that the REASON behind that is not that they CAN'T - as they very possibly told you, and which is what made you wonder about whether these practices are legal or not.
I'm not expanding further what the REAL reasons are (strictly economic, rather than legal), because P4Paul already did that in his post #44 that followed mine - see his "However..." sentence.

Mapism, have you ever thought about becoming a Labour politician?;)

JFM..I still remain a little puzzled on the UK theme, unless you genuinely love something about UK boats that isn't in boats from abroad-and here I do make the assumption it is the boat not patriotism.Yet even within UK boats ,they have their own style....Having said that, I have not found a single boat that I would aspire to own that did not come from Scandinavia...!
Well, of course nobody can argue with anyone's personal aspirations, so I won't.
Then again, I'm a bit puzzled on the Scandinavian theme, if you forgive me for stealing your own wording... :)

Nope, but if you think I might be successful as a politician, why Labour?
...as if the skills required were different from one party to another... :D

Because you are far too skillful at evading the question to represent any other party;)

Really? I've yet to see any party that is far more skilled than any other at just about anything.... But what do I know?
Otoh, what Qs do you think I evaded exactly?
Wonky asked me if I was saying X or Y, and I replied neither.
It doesn't get much easier than that......

Don't worry, it was just a joke, Mapism! It was your way with words that reminded me of how our politicians talk in the UK;)

I'd vote for Mapism! Just think: someone running the country who is sensible and likes boats!
As regards "way with words", the problem with MapisM is that he is now too good at EN :D :D:encouragement:

Re Scandinavian.. I think it must be that light step that you feel you get as your wallet is totally emptied ;)
