Boats.co.uk team up with Princess

I think that is rather disengenious Oldgit.

BCU sell day fishing boats and sailors sub £10k as well as mega boats north of £3m. I gather they treat their customers equally whatever they are buying.

You are in danger of sounding a bit chippy and envious to be honest OG which I am sure you didn't mean to convey :)

I only tuned in to find out the official OB rating for a Princess 82...

You are of course absolutely right and in no way would I wish to infer that boaters on the Solent regard themselves as anything other than perfectly average chaps and exactly the same as any other chap on the Kensington omnibus :)

You gotta hand it to those Barke Brothers! :encouragement::encouragement:
And to Princess, for upping their game nicely :encouragement::encouragement:

Obviously you far more of a VIP than me! When I asked about internal stairs on the 68 at LIBS, they said nope, never, under no circumstances, no demand for it;)

Back to BCU and Princess - this made me smile. Several times in the 3 years or so since the very fine princess 82 was launched I've spoken to other Princess representatives about the having one built with an internal flybridge staircase - a feature many on here understand well. The response was generally sucked teeth. BCU became dealers on Monday this week. On Wednesday this week, I received an email from BCU with a full set of CAD drawings showing a Princess 82 with internal staircase and a message basically saying "confirmed: you can have this if you want"

Jeez, that JFM speaks volumes doesn't it? Amazing after all these years
This new relationship is going well already for customers

Could be difficult to fit internal stairs into that boat.
All these new designs are much taller with a single level right through the saloon/galley - maybe too many treads required.
Older designs like ours have two levels - mainly to provide headroom in the mid cabin.
Just had a look at our internal stairs - ours gets away with it by cleverly placing them at the point where the saloon floor level changes - thus not so many treads required.
Just a thought.

And now Boats.co.uk have employed James Powell - ex Fairline and B.A Peters to run their Poole Operation. They are not standing still, James Powell is a very knowledge big hitter in the marine industry!.

I don't know, Mike. My existing boat is laid out very similarly to the P68 with only a small change in level and the designers managed to fit in a set of internal steps. On the P68 there's actually a perfect position for the stairs in a bit of dead space behind the helm seats. Actually its almost as if the designers left that space just in case they had to put in stairs there at a later date!

Strikes me that folks buying from brochures or a stock list just need a dealer and folks that buy what they want need more. So It looks to me that PMYS & BCU cover those bases rather well. And it's clear, at least to me, that dealer experience has considerably more clout with the factory than any single customer at any price point! For most folks on here, BCU will surely be the touch point. As JFM points out, car procurement parallels rapidly run out of relevance compared with boats.

+1
