Lastly I know BCU will take your boat in part exchange against one of these Euro boats- I know because I asked . I think they should make a bigger play on that ! Now that adds priceless value - not having to own 2 boats at once being one of them.
I doubt they can take a p/x in this offer because in the small print it clearly states they are only acting as a broker so they don't take title to the boat. Yes I can understand that UK buyers might feel more comfortable dealing with a familiar face but in the end, the sales contract is between the UK buyer and the European seller so BCU have no more legal obligation to the buyer than any other broker would have and 10% seems an awful lot to pay for simply hearing a familiar voice on the end of the phone. As I said, I've dealt through UK brokers myself when buying boats in Europe and they have taken their fee out of the selling broker's fee and not charged me a cent extra

Many people do not know that BCU (EBY) have discreetly offered this service to certain customers for many years. In fact I know that customers actually contact BCU regularly and ask them to buy boats for them in the UK because they are more comfortable dealing with them than a random broker or private seller. I suppose having BCU deal with everything gives a boat a seal of approval and a sense of security that they would not otherwise get. What price do you put on this ? Some of you maybe nothing but we are all different and maybe they are aiming it at other parts of the market .

Let alone the deals they can get for shipping the boat back to the UK!

I also applaud their quick thinking on this - what other dealer is offering to help make it easier to buy boats abroad and save money? The Barke Brothers are a creative lot and I am sure they will make this work.

I still cant really see where the value is added. There are UK based brokers that have offices and listings in the Med. A good broker should have checked out the title and tax status before listing the boat. There is at least one broker that has offices here and in the med that will take a boat in part ex against a brokerage boat, including a med based one, I know because I am negotiating on one at the moment. I am sure if they do it there are others.

Now on the other hand if I could pay a broker 10% and they bought the boat on my behalf so I was then buying the boat from the UK based broker and as such it came with a 12 month warranty........................Then I would very seriously consider it because the seal of approval would be backed up by something.

OTOH, no-one has to buy this service if they don't want to and the cost of launching it mebbe has the Barkes down no more than the cost of a bottle or two of whatever the journo washed his fish and chips down with. :D

I suppose it depends on the value of the boat. 10% of £100,000 is more reasonable than 10% of £500,000.

Knowing the Brothers Barke as I do everything is negotiable and if someone wants to use this service i would doubt that fees would get in the way that much.

This forum is a self selecting bunch of people who have a decent interest in boats and may not "fear" buying over seas. Other will be less inclined to travel, and deal with the paperwork. At the right fee a good service that just might get you into a bigger boat given the Euro.

Boats.co.uk should be able to PX ( in all but name) as they buy boats for cash anyway.

+1

I don't think it is aimed at those with half mill + to spend, & the lower end I would think would be happy with euro prices as they are.

I saw this on their site and thought it a great idea. I trust the Essex Boys so good job. however 10% plus Vat.......seemed to high. They have looked at sourcing specific models before at such a fee, but time will tell!
