I can't see that this has been posted before. It's an hour long video from Alaska; about a pretty quirky and funny couple and their year long sailing and hunting escapades in what looks like a stunning wilderness to me. I was really enjoying it until he killed and skinned a black bear - but it seems that he takes bears and fish for meat from the comments below the video. I'm only half way through, but looking forward to the rest later.

It has been on here before.......but no harm in it getting another airing.

A very competent couple, sailing in the most beautiful waters.

They do things I couldn't/ wouldn't, but that's because my upbringing has made me a squeamish wimp who is detached from where his food comes from.

Hi,
Could not watch it, the couple clearly ruined the bears day. Everyone has their own opinion, but I believe the couple could well have made provision for their own food and not interfered in what is a delicate food chain in the wilderness. Im no eco warrior but I can not justify any form of killing other than necessary, I don't believe a group of people sailing for recreation in a wilderness is in any way justification for killing an animal at the top of the food chain.

It was a very good video until I saw the bear. I have nothing against hunting game, but I did not think bears were considered game.
It gets worse in the part where she gets to shoot at what looks like a very young bear. One shot, standing up. What is the challlenge? What chances did the bear have?

What an utterly pathetic couple this is. What are they thinking? Let's mess up a bit more of this world?
Like humans haven't done enough yet...
I cannot understand how anyone can live with himself hunting for pleasure, especially using guns. Cheap thrills I would say.
They ruined my day with their horrible actions. Especially when there were cheering about it.

Sorry, I can't stand these kind of people.

A.

This is an inspiring film. It's wonderful to see this couple gaining such enjoyment from each other's company and the magnificent environment in which they sail.

As someone who doesn't oppose the slaughter of animals for food, I don't see the problem with shooting bears. I suspect the bears they kill have had a better life and a less traumatic death than many commercially-raised creatures.

Taking out the top predator is seldom advisable when it comes to encouraging a healthy well balanced environment

cultural niceties be damned - it was a crass and ugly thing to do

They actually have videos for the last three years.

As I understand it, Alaskian authorities issue licenses to kill bears, fish fish etc. so the numbers killed is quite controlled. This couple do actually eat everything they kill.

A great video, what amazing cruising grounds. I would have liked a little more info, like what anchor they were using. And what calibre rounds ;)

Couple of points:

a. Surely man is the top predator?
b. You are mixing up the class ('the top predator') with a member of the class ('a' bear).

Hunting large animals certainly seems to be culturally acceptable in the US.

Hi
Id be very surprised If two people could eat a whole bear, I suspect they had several meals and the rest was discarded. I only hope they live to regret their actions in time,

They take the bear home, butcher it and put it in the freezer.

Glad you posted the video but could not watch it after reading that they were going to kill and skin a bear.

Fully accept that man had to do this kind of thing to survive .Hunting is deeply ingrained in man , more in some than others. Cannot judge the couple as clearly they have a different view to me and thats fine.

I didn't know about the bear bit beforehand, but it's well worth watching the first 25 minutes, or up to the point when he had a cockpit full of line caught cod. It's 'bear free' up to that point.

That is absolutely stunning.....I had to watch the 1st 9 videos in one go.

Can't wait to see the rest.

The word 'amazing' is ridiculously over-used nowadays, but they are, truly, an amazing young couple.

I take it you're a vegan?
If not are you aware of where your meat comes from and what happens to the byproducts of all your dairy foods?
I have lots of friends who live in Northern Canada and Alaska. They hunt. They understand nature and the value of food much more than any of my European/UK city dwelling friends.

Unfortunately they are not doing any more. The couple got married and are selling the boat for other endeavours. In year 3 of boats, beaches and bears the Teleport couple actually make an appearance.

Hello

No actually i am not. How wrong you are. I also know where my food comes from. In the past ive worked in the food industry and farmed 100s of sheep and cattle, I would sell from my own retail shop meat and dairy products and farmed in a similar environment. Ive also studied conservation and environmental science. I understand where food comes from more than most. I am also aware of different cultures and how gun grazy the north Americans are involving both humans and animals.

As for european/uk city dwelling people, and an implied lack of understanding. even if it was true and I dont agree, at least they have what I consider morals. I actually take the view that people that live in lets say rural environments are not shall we say custodians of the countryside as we are led to believe and from past evidence haveing been part of a significant investigation by parliament, that was prompted by me and eventually upheld in full involving fraud for millions only know to well how the supposed custodians of the countryside exploit its environment and people.

The couple had no need other than self gratification to kill what I believe was two bears. they went in to that environment and their impact was negative and quite frankly I am shocked by views thier actions were ok but we are all entitled to an opinion. So some can have a laugh over it, after all its a public forum,

Times are changing and not fast enough as far as im concerned. It was not so long ago our own royal family would venture off with the intention to eradicate some of the most amazing species in the world for thier own gratification, Im sure you dont now condone that.
