Has brexit affectEd your boating , this is NOT a political question.
Yes.

Downsides:
1. We have had to apply for French Cartes de Séjour to come and go as freely as we used to be able to. Fortunately, we qualified for them. Those who didn't, and who keep their boats in the EU are likely to suffer a lot of inconvenience.

Upsides (for yachtsmen) :
Sorry, I can't think of any.

Certainly in the Cruising Association site there are a lot of people who have
- had to spend substantial funds to delivery crews to get boats previously purchased in the EU back to Uk before 31/12/21 to avoid having to pay UK VAT on them
- others doing major voyages to get boats back to UK prior to June 2022
- many curtailed cruising plans due to the Schengen 90/180 rules
Also on here people unable to purchase the boats they have wanted to buy that are currently in EU due to the VAT issues

Personally I was planning to go to the Baltic in 2020, the last year before Schengen 90/180 rules, but clearly Covid put paid to that.
Now debating whether it is possible in 2022 or 2023, but 90/180 may make it too rushed (spent around 120 days in a Schengen in 2018 cruise)
Also if wanted to sell boat much less buyers due to VAT issue, likely reduce value
So yes, quite a lot has been B####ed

No - I sail about in and around Chi Harbour, anchor, swim, drink tea, watch the wildlife same as before!
WIth the greatest respect, (and as someone who loves that area as a pedestrian) isn't that a bit boring? I found sailing the Solent boring after a few trips. It was like always going to the New Forest for an outing.

Yes.

Was looking to purchase a larger boat last year and the type we were looking at was more available on the contingent.

Change in VAT means my aspirations have been binned. Probably indefinitely.

It has not yet affected me due to Covid restrictions, but once they are removed, it will:
- I will no longer be able to nip across the North Sea just as easily as I used to, I will need my passport, need to clear in and out, Q-flag, Schengen procedure on departure and arrival in home port
- Buying things online from U.K. suppliers is more complicated and expensive, so is abolished or needs the cooperation of friends across the water to act as drop off address, so only viable for things that are not urgently needed
- When the time comes to sell my British built boat, potential buyers in the U.K. will be deterred by VAT, and I am most likely to fetch a lower price as the marque is largely unknown on the continent

Edited to reflect new factual information

I will tell you something else that has impacted my boating far far more than the B word. This bloody diesel leak? until I find it I will remain out of the water.
