Hi there! I am currently doing a project and it would be really useful to get some feedback and information from avid boaters like yourselves!
If you can spare a couple of minutes please complete the survey linked here: boat survey

Another poorly-designed survey that I shan't complete. Question 4 asks me if my boat is, amongst other choices, a monohull, a cruiser or a yacht and allows me to select only one (it is all three).

What sort of project?

As @alan_d states a poorly designed survey.

Aww come on chaps. One bad question doesn't make a poorly designed survey! Yeah, sure Q4 should either be multi-select or should be non-overlapping categories, but I've seen plenty of expensive "professional" surveys do the same. And you do have the luxury of the catch-all at the end, where you can say that your cruiser yacht is a monohull.

We aren't in a position to judge whether the survey is well designed or not, without a complete breakdown of everything that the survey is trying to achieve, and for what purposes. I have seen students in the past try to do that, and inevitably they get swamped by forum know-it-alls who then tell them that everything they're doing is wrong.

Just take the survey at face value and either do it, or don't do it. But don't waste your breath moaning about it!

Hi all, thank you for your responses, some have been useful whilst others seem to think that my survey is useless. Just to give some background information as i understand it seems a bit random considering the questions Im asking; I am a secondary school student doing a GCSE project where i have to design a project for a specific context provided to me. For the project, before i reach my final outcome i must go through several stages of research and feedback on the topic - which is why i sent the survey your way - in order to get more insight. Thank you to those who responded helpfully!

I read all the posts and then completed the survey.

I like to support people who want to learn and I like to encourage. It was not obvious to me what the OP was hoping to gain - maybe he was actually looking to reaction to the questions in his survey - and he has received them - unabridged.

I hope he finds the completed surveys useful and the reaction to his survey educational.

I also hope that in the fullness of time he comes back and tells us the outcome - and maybe another survey.

Good luck nts

their bark is worse that their bite - and usually (as in this case) - they mean well

Thanks for the help guys, your responses to the survey have been really useful! My project is for the given context 'Eating Outside' and i personally chose to pursue the niche of eating and cooking on boats - I sent out the survey to get some insight from people with a bit more expertise than me into the area and to find some problems people had; as essentially with this project I'm supposed to design a product that solves people's problems.
If you guys have any tips or suggestions for the project now given some more info on what I'm actually doing, I'm welcome to any comments!

Doesn't take long to do it.

It's probably deliberately unclear what it's aimed at. Might be fun to guess?

A gimballed Lazy Susan maybe.

Oddly when I thought I'd come out of the Survey Monkey site, I was asked whether I'd like to give my opinion on Current Events!

I particularly liked the choices in Q7

7. What issues do you have with eating on board? (eg. not enough table space, rocking and spilling/toppling over, insects, etc.)

A. (<-- please do not select this option, use the one below)

B. write your answer here:

If you had stated the school bit before you would have had a much more sympathetic response from these seasoned old salts I think.

I'm rubbish at cooking but have a lovely cooker that fills up the cooker hole very nicely , but best of all it has a great oven light which lights up the galley floor which is extremely helpfull when it comes to hoovering the floor ?

To the OP. Good ideas for cooking and eating on yachts have been flogged to death - we (or the industry and gifted amateurs, are not short of ideas) marketing them is the issue.

We have, or there are, rectangular frying pans, not much used. I know of a company who make square saucepans, they nest. So space saving when stored and they fit neatly on a small stove top - but uptake is poor - poor marketing. We have fold down silicone kettles (and I think saucepans) again poor marketing. Look at the Thermos Shuttle Chef and derivatives - excellent idea - poor uptake.

I might suggest a new or different survey with an introduction to which we can relate. You are young and not constrained by your own historic ideas - you might put a new slant on it and maybe something will come out of a new survey.

I hope now that we know the back ground you will enjoy more sympathy and support. Don't give up!

The survey actually got so many responses so its reached the maximum limit for the number of responses! So I've unfortunately not been able to actually see the last few (the ones posted yesterday onwards) which I actually assume would be the more helpful ones, after the people who didn't fully understand what i was doing.
Anyway to anyone who sees this I've opened a new link here for any responses still coming in and if you did complete it yesterday or today it would be amazing if you had the chance if you could just fill it out really quickly again! Thanks so much
