Hi all, new member and total novice, prospective boat owner (when we emigrate to Spain.)

I hope this is in the correct section as cant find a specific section for Spain or Europe.

My questions
Are there any rules or regs for inland motorboating in spain (Malaga region) - does anybody have any links that could help me find this info?
Is there a website that shows slipways or where a boat can be launched from sea or inland ?
What is the situation with boat VAT - what happens if I purchase a second hand boat or a boat that doesnt have a vat paid receipt?
Are all 2 stoke outboards now banned (in EEC) for private use? - ie only 4 strokes allowed.
What is the required min safety equip required when boating (I assume there is a standard that all boats are required to carry)

I know that no license is required if the boat is up to 5m and up to 15hp outboard motor but you must have insurance and I believe the boat needs to be registered with the spanish authorities.

There isn't much inland boating in Spain,.
Very few places on the Spanish med have slipway - it's launch by crane (cost).

Try asking a different question. What sort/size of boat do you want and where do you want to be based.

Where in Spain, big place! I know the Mar Menor, and you need a Titulo for small sailing or motor boats. RYA converted to ICC is OK. 2Strokes are not “banned” , but emissions are non compliant. Difficult for Brits to grasp that you need a license for sailing from a Jetski upwards. Boats are licensed and inspected, and trailers too. If it’s a UK registered boat, car and trailer you are fine if you are a UK resident. Don’t underestimate Spanish bureaucracy. Insurance is a must have. There are launch ramps in some areas of the coast for free, but access to quiet rivers or lakes……….maybe not legally. Ask on Spanish fishing websites? Lots of Brits fish here on the sea, so must be a good market on freshwater too.

While not knowing what the rules are, there were motorboats/cruisers on the river La Noguera Pallaresa just north of Camarasa and a few boats were tied up alongside the camping/cantina at Camping Montsec. One thing there is that there are a lot of dams on the river, there were also facilities at Hotel Terradets wich is on the banks of Embassament de Terradets which is a lake on the previously mentioned river.

Be careful when you see Canal mentioned it usually means that the water has been put in a culvert or piping

We were on part of the Segre river where it runs through a deep gorge, the villa came with 10 canoes and a load of mountain bikes. We were there with the family for our 60th birthday, 22 of us :)
Link to where we were on Google maps
41°54'43.5"N 0°56'50.9"E · Unnamed Road, 25737, Lleida, Spain

There are also boats on the lakes up around Mont Rebei and a fantastic walk/ canoe through a very deep gorge there

Hi sorry about the late reply - as no license required in spain upto 5 m length and 15hp that is what we will be getting (for now)
As for location anywhere along the southern med coast from malaga to almeria

I have looked into this and no license req from boat under 5m with 15hp engine or less within 2 miles of shore.
one step up is the basic navigation license that allows motor boats upto 6m and the max motor allowable for said boat. cost about 1 00 euros, 1/2 day practical training - no exam required.
