Looking for a boatbuilder for a few weeks' work in June / July, to help finish off the restoration of a 42', 1939 motor yacht. Mainly interior work (bulkheads, galley/heads fitout, interior painting and varnishing, some hull & deck fittings etc. East coast (Ipswich/Levington area.) Can be flexible on hours. May be possible to stay aboard (at least when relaunched.)

Thank you, sorry I meant an individual rather than a yard (boat is ashore initially)
All the boatbuilders I know of operate from yards. It happens that the son of a friend is a boatbuilder (he worked for Spirit), and from what I hear from his father a boatbuilder without a yard is unlikely. The trade requires at least some heavy tools and lifting gear.

Perhaps for what you want, a cabinet-maker might work? What you mentioned doesn't require specific boat skills.

Thanks, yes a cabinet-maker / joiner would work, or someone who would like a (well paid!) part-time or temporary role for whatever reason.

There are freelance boatbuilders around. I could help with suggestions if you were based in Poole. However finding them is predominately word of mouth as they tend not to advertise. Summer months are not good as it is the time of highest demand for outside work. Winter is when interior work like yours is more attractive.

Would this be James Oxley? He works from a yard at Kirby Le Soken but also does a lot of bits in the marina at Titchmarsh - great worker & great sailor. I have had a shipwright working for me three mornings a week at Titchmarsh for several years now, she hasn't got a yard but can access Bedwells & I now provide a lot of the necessary machinery. I would have thought Levington would have somebody similar, although I suspect they would be already very busy at this time of year.

Sorry, no. He works for one of the yards at Woodbridge now - don't know which. But he isn't freelance.
