what is the stuff they use for transport/winter covers.. a bit like mega grade white shrink film?
Looks quite an art; just wondered what that "plastic" actually is.

Here you go:

I think it was this lot that were doing demos of the process at SIBS - it was interesting to watch (and very quick). They use heat guns, moving slowly enough to cause the plastic to shrink, but quickly enough not to melt the boat underneath (at least, that's the plan...).

Where you off to then? :D

Cheers
Jimmy

Ah, so "shrink wrap roll"> Seems a fairly obvious name ;)
Watched two guys do a flybridge a while back.. nifty with the vent holes, and the zipped back door.
I'd probably set fire to the whole damn lot...
No, we're arent on the move, and the boat has one of those massive winter covers anyway. I was just wondering what that stuff was...

It's 1000 micron white pigmented LDPE (polythene) with a shrink additive. Nothing special about it, in fact all pallets are shrink wrapped in the same material. Most pallets are automatically wrapped by basically placing a big bag over the pallet and then shrunk down whilst being spun on a turntable. This system has been around since the seventies...I know as I used to sell the systems!

Is it really that thick? Few web sites I came across after JTB link suggest 250-300...

sorry for fred drift but I was inerested to see Princess getting the SIBS 72 ready for Antwerp/Turkey

All rails and s/s covered with pipe lag foam - all horizonal external surface covered with rigid plastic sheet with foam strips under for grip etc - then taped up and plastic paint sprayed to seal all edges.

Then whole kit covered in your stuff once O/B the ocean transport.

Must cost a fortune as the prep was 3 guys for 2 w/e days........
