What ad is that then?

I didn't want to post it because of the op but it's easy to find with a right click of the pic on the first page and a "search google for image" takes you right to it. ;)

6.2 I think as it looks like a mechanical fuel pump. The 6.5 is electronic so I understand. Should be easy to tell.

Cracking boat. If they run well....I wouldn’t be put off personally...but then I do my own fixing.....or try to :)

Looks like a very tidy boat. One other thing to be aware of is that the engines would probably have been petrol originally. The legs may be original, so the gearing ratio may, or may not be right. I don't know what these diesels rev to, but almost certainly not as high as a V8 petrol. Again this will show up in the sea trial.

The 6.5 has a db4 injection pump which is electronically regulated. As pictured, it’s got a plug

The 6.2 has a completely mechanical db2 pump..no plug, just one wire for the stop solenoid. The pump is in the valley under the air intake manifold at the front of the engine.

Ok so it went like this. I viewed two boats on Saturday, same models different prices. Both in very good condition slight difference in their electronic specification which is relatively easy to be objective about. The question is this what price premium do I put on AQAD31 engines over GMC 6.2 ltr samurai marinised if both have had the same level of care?

130 or 150hp AD31's? It makes a difference as I would think 2 X 130 would be rather underpowered in this boat. 2 X 150 would be just about OK and in that case I would happily pay quite a few thou more to have something with Volvo rather than samurai.

:D Twice I've used my phone to post, no more :D
They are the 130bhp 31's I know the owner of the gmc boat has said they are 190bhp but I've read they were 165bhp? I'm waiting on some confirmation of that.

I think 6.5 non turbo was 190hp but everyone quotes the same for the 6.2.....wrongly!

What’s the asking price difference?

Best thing is to take both for a spin. You might find they both cruise at the same speed so then I’d go volvo....for support and resale if nothing else.

Price difference when I factor everything else into it is £4000 for the difference in engines.

I'm not 100% swayed either way. Volvo all things being equal would be the consensus. But a significantly bigger displacement making the same power (in hp at least) has to be less stressed and deliver more torque. I would research figures in greater detail and also second sea trialling both (if possible without contract). From what I understand both engines were offered by OEM and there has to be a justification for this. What was it?
