Boat transportation costs?

Anyone have any costs on road transporting a 30' yacht from Portsmouth to Newcastle upon Tyne?

We used a guy in Scotland (Largs) down to Hamble, cost us £1,200. Very good service.

John Shepherd's probably the guy to whom you're referring. Used him to transport my 37 footer from Gospot to Largs - cost £1,500 (including VAT). Very helpful, knowledgable and reliable. Tel 07836 706119.

There is a site clicky which is a notice board for transporters which generated some quotes for me. I was offered a return trip, where someone was travelling up to Scotland fromthe South coast to pick up a boat, so he was going to drop mine off on he way up. The cost was around £1,000. Unfortunately this offer came in after I had accepted John Shepherd's quote. I have absolutely no regrets in using him, however.

Slightly different journey, I used Gilbert Brown of Ambleside to transport a 34 ft boat from Suffolk to Whitehaven, Cumbria. They do, or did, have regular runs to the s. coast to transport new Hanse yachts to Windermere. Excellent service, in 2004 the total cost was £650, excluding boatyard lifts. I would definitely recommend them.
