With collective heavy hearts, the skipper and I have decided to bring "Freya" back to the UK, as the economic climate and workload is preventing us from getting out to Spain as often as we would like and there is no point in investing in something that sits and does nothing so much.

Does anyone have any recommendations on professional road transport organisations they have used (or warning bells they might like to ring by PM!!) before we make a decision on who to contract to do the job.

Any information or insight you migh have would be most gratefully received.

I have used http://www.vandewetering.nl/ to transport my previous boat from Holland to the Med and they were excellent. I have also used http://www.petersandmay.com/ to bring a boat back from the Med to the UK and they were also excellent.
You will have to get your boat to a Med port where the truck can get to easily. Most truck companies will charge a lot more for picking up from S Spain for example. Speak to the truck company but many seem to use http://www.port-napoleon.com/ near Marseille. To keep the price down, ask for a return load quote; this means that a truck is already booked for a boat delivery to the Med and would otherwise return empty and is thus cheaper for your delivery but then you will have to wait for a date of their choosing. Lastly, inform your insurance co and get them to insure your boat for the trip for its full value. Truck companies will offer you CMR insurance but it only covers the goods for nominal values which may be a lot less than your boat is actually worth

Sorry to hear you leaving Empuriabrava. Since we are so close to France it might not make so much difference going to Marseille and the trip there is a bit unremarkable and possibly frightening if (or more likely when) it starts to blow in the Gulf du Lion.
Might make a saving if you can have it dropped of at Calais (or similar) and take it across the channel to home.

I used Hainsworth fron Bingley ,West Yorkshire to bring our boat back from Port Napaleon. They went out on the day I wanted (Not return load to fit in with them). They went without me picked the boat up and delivered back to Newark for less than the other companies wanted, for a return load . Overall was very pleased and the best price

Call Simon Butler 07967588965 Boat-Shift www.boat-shift.com Absolutely first class. Just brought my boat back from Sant Carles. Significantly cheaper than anybody else and did exactly what he promised. I was there at both loading and unloading and can vouch for his good care of the boat.
