Hi All,

So I made a post with the idea of bringing my boat from La Coruna to Tewksbury by sea. However, I also would like to do my research to transport her by road.

Has anyone transported a Merry Fisher 805 and know the weights? Could she be transported using a 4x4 with upgraded air brakes etc or does she need to go on a low loader?

I know boating can/is expensive so I am trying to keep my costs low...

I have a full HGV class 1 licence and was wondering if she did need to go on a low loader if any companies don't mind tandem driving? This benefits them as they can get back quicker and cheaper for me, or if anyone has a boat low loader trailer I can rent?

OR! If I just have to bite the bullet if I decide to bring her by road and pay the asking price for a return load.

Thank you :)

It all depends on the weight and size and local regulations.

If you can get the boat and trailer combined weight below 3500Kg's then many large 4X4's have a towing weight of 3500Kg's then weight is fine, but you may have to drain all the tanks and remove as much other weight as possible to get it down to this weight, and get it on a weighbridge and check the weight and keep the ticket.

I show the weight of around 3350Kg and this combined with the trailer weight would exceed 3500Kg's unless you shed a lot of weight to compensate for the traier weight and the height is around 3M.

No you can’t legally, certainly not in this country, slightly too heavy and slightly too wide. Towed mine regularly though not in England.

R400, I’ve seen in previous posts that you towed your MF805 extensively in Ireland. As a recent MF805 owner I would be interested in the trailer you used. I am looking around but very few/none seem to be available that are capable enough.

WIth overrun brakes you are looking at 3500kg total maximum. I understand a Range Rover fitted with air brakes can tow up to 4,000kg, but I've never seen one.

I think this is a job for a low loader. It's a relatively small boat so I imagine avoids convoi exceptional rules* and would therefore be reasonably priced, especially if you could find a truck coming back from a Med delivery empty.
*you would need to look into this

Jeanneau website gives a weight of 2600kg, but this would be ex engine and ex any extras, fluids and kit. It may be possible, just, to get this on a trailer and stay under 3500kg but it would need a lightweight trailer and be very close to limits.

I note at 2.94m the beam of the 805 is 0.04m over for the UK, which you would probably get away with here. I have a feeling some EU countries are not as generous, so you may be stuck with low loader as the only option. Again, you would need to look into this.

my trailer was a french make , Menorem I think, though there are plenty of trailers around at 3500 kg . Im fairly sure the 805 quoted at 2600 includes the engine. If you find a trailer light enough you would be inside the legal limit weight wise but the boat would have to be completely empty, however it’s too wide to be legal in the uk. They tow very easily by the way as the centre of gravity is low. Land cruisers and all land rovers cope easily. Pm me if you want more info good luck
