boat transport from exeter to southampton

To sail an unknown boat round the coast especially the north Cornish coast with it's limited shelter was something I wanted to do and was going to use a delivery skipper to help me.
The boatyard advised me to transport it and a friend said one of the bags the skipper will have will be a toolkit.

27ft boat from Topsham, Exeter to North Devon on a low loader £400, one lift from the boatyard £180.

Delivery by skipper four days £1100 + if longer due to breakdown or bad weather.

Point taken. Although, as a delivery skipper has the foresight to expect mechanical troubles, mightn't the safest bet be to have a trusted mechanic look hard at the engine and resolve any imminent problem there? That work is going to need doing anyway, if it needs doing...

...on his good word, one could journey-plan based on the whole distance under power at consistent speed in moderate conditions...no messing about sailing on a fearsome unfamiliar lee shore. On a calm weekend - like this one - the bill will be 100 miles' worth of diesel.

Although...I'm not sure why the scary Cornish coast entered the question, here...Exeter to Southampton ought to be very straightforward...most likely you'd be able to broad-reach the whole way. Cost? £0.00

Depends on condition of boat, level of knowledge of owner, time available from work...

If it all goes to plan it can be cheaper and easier but....

If you have to lift to survey/ clean/ anti-foul/ launch then lift again at other end as mooring is suitable for winter.. The cost of the transport in the middle is not that great, particularly once you start subtracting the cost of charts berthing fees, weather delays etc etc

I caan't see that time off work,weather delays,charts are going to be a consideration for a one or two day trip. Particularly when there are several bolt holes on the way. Obviously check over all systems before you go and have a shakedown day sail if you can. Pick suitable weather window and go for it. You've had an offer of a mate to accompany you.
