Hey guys - off to do a trial of the Princess 286 Riviera next week but looking at getting a survey done - the marina have given me some names - just wanted to know if any of you had any expeience of them and what you thought?

Any standouts or ones to avoid in your experience?

If the marina/broker have given you the names don’t use any of them. Look for somebody who lives 50-100 miles away. That way they are more likely to be a neutral surveyor and not somebody who knows the broker.

We used Simon Kidd from Southern Marine Surveys in 2017 and he was great. Very thorough and Professional. Definitely recommend him.

PS Do go along to the survey - you’ll learn so much about the boat from the surveyor

Plus you can make sure their report bears at least some relevance to the boat they are looking at that day !

Happy to recommend Marine Surveys UK. Matt did a couple of surveys for me the latest being our Targa 38 5 years ago. Very thorough and a nice chap as well. He was happy for me to be there, so I learnt a little about the boat as well. Don’t forget about the engines as well, and if they’re the green variety, there’s only one man, VolvoPaul of this parish. Good luck

Steven at all craft Marine did a great survey on mine, identified some areas that the owner rectified and saved 2x the cost of the survey.

That’s the problem with tick box surveys , not worth anything.
