Boat suggestion for Mediterranean

I'm not sure what you mean by an 'Owners Only' marina. I can think of 2 'Private' residence only marinas on the CDA but you can rent ( from the 'owner'/leaseholder via the capitainerie) in at least one of those. That is immaterial though if you intend to buy.

Good Luck with the purchase .. prices seem have been a little softer for the last few months .. but I doubt it will last.

Beleive you me it isnt, IT took me a year to find and rent a 13m by 4m berth for the summer


As to buying, even that is hard to get and for my requirements asking price is 130K euros plus, hard to justify. Especilly when most revert to the local commune, after 10-15 years and no one knows what will happen then. Even berths for sale are not common.
 
EME is agreeing with you, he said "urban legend", not "urban myth". In some SoF marinas you can get a rental berth by paying backhander to the capitainerie (I was offered one in La Napoule for €10k), but it's an expensive bung when there's no security of tenure.
 
I am actually strongly considering the Beneteau Monte Carlo 32 Open. It seems to fit all the criteria and has a lot of the features/options I'd want. The pricing on the 2008/2009 even with 0hrs are very aggressive in a good way compared to the Italian makers.

I was on one of these things and the space inside is quite large. I'm a big guy (1.88m / 95kg) and had no problems on the bow sunbathing mat, stern mat, berths and cabin height. The only complaint I had compared to Sessa, Airon and Atlantis was that the quality of the finish and the materials seemed a bit lower. I did look at the boat outside on a cloudy day compared to the nicely lit showrooms for the other boats.

I think to remember you did not view the Atlantis 315 SC, and also the Sessa C30, these are spacious inside as much as the Beneteau and build quality is also a better, reason for the higher price
I think the best value for money and compromis for exterior and interior spaces is given by the Galeon 325, if you are considering new I would surely choose the Polish builder
for outside space the Atlantis 315 SC is second to none offering exterior spaces associated with a forty footer, but still having a comforable 2+2 interior
I think is important to view all the boats you are considering so that you are sure you make the right choice for today and tommorow
 
I will definitely go view all the boats. Just wanted to see if my hunch was shared with others on the build quality. It is just my impression after seeing half of the boats I'm considering, that if you strip away the all so common D3/D4 engines and the overpriced optional microwaves etc... the difference in the boats is down to hull design, layout and finishing materials/touches. In the current economic climate for me it would make sense to pick the maker that offers a steep discount next to the other if the difference is the wood grain on the cockpit to simplify things.

Once again, I'm ducking for cover as I'm a newbie, but these are just my first impressions after a month of research on the subject.

PowerYachtBlog, correct me if I'm wrong but Galeon has no authorized dealers/service partners within 100km range of Cannes/Antibes according to the website. I'd be weary of a new build from a company that has no local presence where the boat will be kept.

It's quite a challenge to view them actually because a lot of the dealers seem to either not have a demo model in stock or it's a X hour drive away. It's also a bit of a pain to get pricing out of the dealers. Much worse than buying a car.

When is the Genoa boat show? Maybe you missed it already, but if not, then it's worth a drive up the coast and you can see lots of boats at the same time, to decide which is best for you.
