Boat Stuck on Chertsey Bridge - Sat PM

Hello everyone. This is my first post on YBW.

The motor boat that got stuck is definitely a Van Lent (n.b. the crest) but she is definitely not Billow - Billow is a 1960 50ft Van Lent that I know from her days on the Norfolk Broads. I reckon this lovely vessel is around 40ft (maybe 45ft) and judging by the lack of raised sheer and lack of flare at the bow, and especially the rectangular port lights, I'd say she was built in the 1970s. FYI I have a 62ft Van Lent called Alto Volante (pka Tiky , and Lenten Rose) built in 1961 and now coming to the end of a 3yr total rebuild on the UK east coast. If anyone is interested in seeing loads of pics of the rebuild take a look at http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/g...-classic-1961-62ft-feadship-alto-volante.html

Crikey me! Your interior is amazing.

Ok, so a Van Lent it is then. What a fabulous project you have with Alto V. I'm sure the end result will be stunning, can't wait for more pictures. Respect!

Welcome to the mad house
we saw her when she was in Fox`s, prior to going to Landy`s yard, a very nice craft indeed. well impressed with the prop shafts

I heard that some years ago on a repaint job 'Deux' had the vowels reversed. The owner queried that as they had made such a c**k up perhaps they should have inserted an 'r' between the vowels

As the current owner of "Deux (DUREX) Poissons" I find that story fascinating, especially as I can totally imagine Bob, the previous owner, going slightly ballistic at the mis-spelling!
The boat was fitted out in 1959 or 1960 at a long-gone boatyard near Richmond lock. I am told that Pete Townsend's recording studio (in a barge) now occupies the site. Does anyone know anything about that deceased boatyard?
For anyone interested in classic Dutch steel craft, "Deux Poissons" has her own web site at (you guessed it) www.deuxpoissons.co.uk . Visitors welcome.

Yes, a lock keeper asked why our boat was called Two Chickens...my wife (degree-level French) says that "poussins" means "small chicken", which is close I suppose.
The origin of the name comes from the first owners, who ordered the boat from the Van Lent yard at the Earls Court Boat Show of 1959. Their names were Mr and Mrs Fisher. Thus Two Fishes. Corny but true!
One day, moored in St Katts, I met the chap who, in 1959 or 1960, actually towed the new hull from London docks (shipped over from Holland) to the yard at Richmond where she was fitted out, presumably to drawings from Van Lent. He was a friend of the Fishers. Apparently Mr F was a shoe salesman. Luckily he didn't call the boat "Two Shoes..."

Web site currently working fine.

I love your boat and propose that you lend me the money to buy her which I shall gladly re-pay over the next 25 years. Deal?

Don't worry I'm joking but she is lovely.

Not sure about the whole Pete townshend studio on a barge thing , that sounds uncannily like David Gilmours houseboat recording studio which is some way upstream in hampton

Could it have been fitted out at toughs ? Which used to be right opposite the lock at teddington ?

Called Grand Cru which was emptied out a couple of years ago but is still around as far as I know. Interesting to note that the site used to be a boatyard "Waite's Boathouse" build by Bill Sims, who if I'm correct had the yard and house next to Lion Boathouse on Eel Pie Island. It is the building that is being re-built by Henry Harrison (Mystery Jets).

Thanks - that answers my query posted earlier in this thread as to the name of the yard that my Van Lent cruiser "Deux Poissons" was fitted out, in 1959-1960. I met the chap who towed the bare hull up from London docks (shipped over from the Van Lent yard in Holland) and he said the boat was delivered to a boatyard at that location.
