Boat storage in the Exeter Basin area

My son is bringing his Nova 27 over from France, he needs to keep the boat in the Exeter area, possibly on the hard or in the water. Can anyone suggest a good cheap place to put the boat until next season? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif He will not be using it until the spring or summer, and will need to lay it up in the next few weeks.

Talk to either Mark Trout on 01392 873044 (he runs Trouts boatyeard at Topsham and could fix you up with a swinging mooring or put you on the hard) or Phil Wills on 01626 890225 who has many moorings around Starcross. Both are OK and will give you a fair deal but you may be happier overwintering at Topsham rather than Starcross which can be a bit exposed to Easterly gales.
The other option is too moor on the canal but I'm not sure how to go about getting a spot there; it may be a Exeter Council run operation.

He could take his boat up to Exeter basin along the ship canal (5 miles, fun trip) and either leave it in the water or have it craned out there. Last canal convoy this year is Sept 30 due to work on the swingbridge part way along the canal this winter.
Or he could leave it just inside the canal at Turf Locks at the estuary end.
Ring Jack Nott river & canal manager on 01392 274306, he is in charge of both areas.
As to price, I'm not sure if you'll think it cheap or not - it seems reasonable to me. Turf locks I think is slightly cheaper.

Boats have occasionally been broken into, but I don't think any more so than other locations I've heard about. In the basin there is a (relatively) more secure compound which you can pay a little extra for.

Despte arranging comprehensively over many calls and e-mails, a 3 month storage in the basin, they managed to prevent my entry at the appointed date and time. Refusal was granted as we slipped Weymouth and rang ahead to (re)confirm our arrival.

I swung from the ferymans moorings instead (and took a glancing blow down one side - but that can happen anywhere).

I think when I spoke to him on several occasions he wouldn't have noticed the difference.

In terms of the above posting, it was probably just my subconcious remembering how I felt at the time.
