boat speeding down the thames video

Yep stupid is the word, I for one have never seen anyone speed down that stretch.......(or round the back or was that the grass....).

Then again not THAT stupid as he did it outside of fishing season and therefore still alive to tell the tale, I would imagine he lives down that stretch.

Still not saying speeding is a good thing.

Consider it done !

She'll be pleased to hear that ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Lucky you saved those videos , they have ' Been Removed By The User ' /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif what a surprise !!

Who tipped him off ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I did...I told him to remove the link as it had too much personal info.

He has been busted, he knows it and he is worried.

He is known, the boat is known and we have the pix, let him sweat.... at least he did not end up on the grass.....

BUT I do not condone what he did.

I'm not going to comment, the world has gone mad.

It would appear rules are there to protect the guilty.

There would appear to be a 'public domain' and a 'Public Domain'

How so? Is he a forumite? Or has 'someone' emailed him to tip him off?

I will 'fess up to being bad a couple of times, but at least I didn't video it and feel smug. Once, there was a sort of reason, the other time, well no real excuse at all.

Why is the Thames limit in mph /kmh and not knots? The Medway is the same number but in knots!

Whats your point?

This is where I stand as in ME not and employee of IPC

He was wrong to do what he did, stupid to film it, even more stupid to put all his details in the public domain.

As I said the authorities have a copy of the video and will no doubt follow it up, he took down his link after I emailed him. He is still very easy to find as the links still exist in various threads.

But I would far rather see a 16 year old kid use a boat on the Thames and by the looks of things he uses it a lot (probably a lot more sensibly now) and this is why I think he knows the river.

That stretch is notorious for folk to "give it a bit" it is a clear run often with no boats whatsoever (if there are you can see them) and outside of fishing season there is simply nothing there and no damage to be done, no more than what any flood will do (in fact far less).

So back to my point it would appear that he knows the river, uses the river and enjoys the river something we need not just for the Thames but for the Industry as well.

So slap him on the wrists or give him a fine and let him learn the hard way but I would far rather see a 16 / 17 year old kid "give it a bit" on that stretch than screaming round Staines one way system in a Ford wicked and taking out a small child or worse.

This will probably not go down particularly well with the good folk of this forum but before ANYONE replies think very long and hard as to whether they have ever "given it a bit" on the Thames......

AS I said before I don't condone what he has done but its not the end of the world and no one died....

Running for cover now....

after feeling the effects of a passing boat speeding (and I'm talking about a 38ft boat on the plane, rather then just a few knots over the limit), I can honestly say I have never gone over the limit on the thames, and never plan to.

Although I agree that in the clip he doesn't pass another boat, I'm sure that this is not the only time and place he has done this. Infact on the original youtube link he made a comment about how he often speeds along the thames.

I have invested a lot of hard earned money in my boat and would not want it damaged by some idiot, whether it be a young and slightly naive young lad like the one in the clip, or from a grown man who should of known better as in the instance I experienced.

Speechless.

As for ever having 'given it some' on the Thames, I haven't. That's because I don't have a boat on the Thames, yet. Having moved to a Thameside property 18 months ago I have however seen a number of people 'giving it some' past our front door, which I do not appreciate and would appreciate less if I had a boat moored there, perhaps I'll stick to the peace and quiet of the Solent. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Or then again, perhaps it'll be a case of, if you can't beat 'em join 'em, and I'll get a little ol' tub with a big feck-off outboard. Any other suggestions for places where I can open her up?? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Next time I'm stopped in my car doing 5 times the speed limit I'll just wind down the window and say, 'Hey officer, it's not the end of the world, no-one died'. I'll let you know how I get on, using my one phone call I will be entitled to.

FIN.

I also live in a waterside property so can appreciate your concerns.

I don't condone what he did it was wrong full stop I was just trying to put it into prospective.

As I said I knew I would be alone in my comments!

Now if you need a small run about with a large outboard I have just the thing in my garage....

I'll give you £550 for it, but only if it can outgun that little Shetland, I feel a burn-up coming on.

I'll supply my own furry-dice...
