Been talking to the wife, thats novel. Talking about crap weather and wouldn't it be nice to go abroad this year for our hols to somewhere warm ans sunny. All well and good bit I'd be without my, sorry our, boat. Got a few quotes off the net for ferry fares with the boat/range rover combo. Not cheap, bloody expensive actually. Add to that the cost of fuel @ 10 to the gallon and it looks a bit un affordable when you add accomodation on top for a family of four.

So looking at how cheap flights etc are to spain and italy. What would the likely cost of renting a 20 odd foot boat in the med. Looking for something with a turn of speed and maybe the odd overnight option. Do they do it by the week or day. Anyone done this in the past and what would be the pitfalls to lookout for. I'm totally green when it comes to renting boats cos I've never done it here, let alone over there. Don't want megabucks big charters as we'll be looking at going self catering. Just the boat.

I know you;ve said Italy and Spain bit is SoF an option. Lot of boats always for rent especially from a the littless well known options. PM me if you're serious. rental rates in June/September can be negotiated a lot cheaper than July/August...

as often mentioned here you do need ICC...

Its in the "lets see how much"stage at the moment. Spain is the preferred option. Got the use of a villa down near Almeria place called Raquettas de Mar. Italy I just like so would like to go back.
I've got an ICC so no probs there.

Fair enough, I have loads of SoF rental rates for this season at home ( I'm in Uk at the moment), so I'll PM tomorrow or over weekend for info and just in case.

Other advice regarding rentals below. Miles cheaper outside jul/august.

Is there no chance of you draggng the thing down? Only take a day or two. And you could tow the boat too!

you might have to charter bigger than 20 odd foot.
30 odd foot seems to be the norm in the balearics certainly the list we had from charterers was all big stuff

I've rented several times with Nautal. com, it's good for both Spain and Italy. The good thing about this company is that it operates in many countries. As a small trap that some companies make, I would say that you should keep in mind that sometimes budgets do not include the cost of gas... With them I haven't had any problem... but just in case I tell you. In italy I also rented with Bluyachts, not bad..

Cant comment on mainland spain, but theres quite a few charter operators in mallorca renting out stuff in the 20-25 foot range, usually cobalts and other american sports boats, they look pretty decent and in good condition. Not sure on costs, as i suspect there is a lot of small print that increases the cost over the headline price.

Have a google for top boats mallorca, or best boats mallorca.

I seem to remember them being around the £ 500-700 per day mark (plus fuel), i guess youd get some discount if you wanted it for a week or more, although not sure if theyre geared up for that ,as they seem to insist on one of their drivers taking it in and out of the marina before handing control over to the renter. I have one of these rental boats moored next to mine and the fact that the punters dont take them in or out of the mooring is a good thing.
