O.K my learned lot, can you please advise as to the benefits of registering, or not, a newly purchased ,previously owned boat? Mariners are by nature quite a supersticious lot (damm wear is the spell checker) so how about changing the boats name? i always thought it was unlucky. what do you all think?

I hope you guys are correct about the unlucky bit as just done name change through broker for about £90.

I always understood that if you drink enough Champagne after relaunching boat then the evil spirits will disappear...... well it sounds fun anyway.

One day I might just buy a dinghy.....

Only thing you need registration for is if you go to france. They dont often ask, but if they do it could cos you. SSR is compleat Micky Mouse. But it suits the French and only costs a tenner. Some one will give you there address.

I had a chat with em at the lbs to see if Danbrit was still registerd, although the details were still on their computor the registration had lapsed .
They did seem very keen to sell me a new blue book with certificate ! but I already have the original so couldn't see the point in spending more dosh .
The point being there was no one saying I had to re register under my name.
cheers
Mick

smile you'l be on your boat soon ;-)

Re: 70 quid to lick a stamp ?

Have changed name of all my boats after buying.
To change name with SSR will cost you 10 quids plus 2 x envelopes and stamps.
Download form FOC.from site mentioned above.
Now let me work something out.
Broker charge .............80/90 quid..
do it yourself......... 10 quids.
80 take away 10 equals.....70 of your englishs pounds for shoving a piece of paper in an envelope and walking round to the post box.
Or have I missed something extra that has to be done with regards to bigger or more expensive type of boat.

Oooh look its still not dark and its nearly 5pm
