boat refurb

I am thinking of replacing the headliner in my boat, does anyone know of a supplier of boat fabrics, I am looking for a fabric type of material not vinyl that can be glued in place, has any of you undertaken such a project and what pitfalls/advice can you mention.
I reealise its a big job as I have to take the inner window frames out to do it neatly.

I saw a very good job done using carpet tiles, makes it easier to get around curves and hollows.

The owner wanted to eliminate condensation and it worked very well.

Not at all, the material selected blended the edges and no joints were visible.

Try Kayospruce - Clicky They have a section for marine headlinings and sidelinings. Their website isn't brilliant but if you phone them they should be able to provide some good advice.

Had most of my boat refurbished professionally, at vairious times. So far they have never needed to take the windows out, though it could happen. Round other places, they did a dam good job of fitting, then a slight bead of sylicone to hide the joint. Less the windows are a problem anyway, just go round them. Carefully.

Most boat headlinings are the foam backed stuff, helps to disguise any bumps in the substrate. I think they're generally put up with contact adhesive, although on many they are glued and stapled to plywood boards, which are then held up with sikkaflex, fir tree connectors, or velcro.

Care is needed when fitting the headlinings not to press with your fingers. If you do, the inside of the fabric/vinyl can compress the foam and stick to the glue causing a dimple, or can subsequently peel away leaving the foam still compressed, causing a bubble.

Toomer and Hayter seem to get a good press, but don't know how competitive they are.
