I seem to remember that the boaty press used to publish tables of boat prices every so often - I think Sailing Today used to do this every month at one time.

Seems to have gone out of fashion now, but does anyone know any different?

I have some vague ideas about changing boats and a pre boatshow exercise of identifying what I can afford and what I can't would be a good starting point.

While I agree this might be interesting how do you compare like with like.

What has never ceased to amaze is that few new boats have everything needed to sail off, and many do not include full instrumentation etc on the basis this is something personal to be added.

By the time you do add this it can make a substantial difference

How do you define "sail off". To different new owners this could mean a 20 mile trip to Yarmouth or an ARC.

Having just purchased a new boat I have enjoyed selecting equipment to my taste, for example I would not want a manufacturer choosing my anchor or handbearing compass.

My AWB came with a Log & Depth & Speed readout and for me the next priority was analogue wind and closehauled meters, to the next guy a 10" plotter screen might be more important.

Bateaux gives tables of boat prices by category every month, for new and second-hand. Good mag, too. But in French /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I once heard tell of a website that dealers only use. This gives information about values compiled from sale history.

The value of any boat can vary wildly. I believe that this is basically because factors such as condition, availablity, desire to sell, financial pressures, model reputation and actual location of the boat set against the willingness of the buyer all have a big influence on what it actually exchanges hands for.

Eg my boat was in stock, new and sat on the hard all summer. As the winter and boat show approached (need to reduce borrowings) I bought it for 24% less than the retail price.

What have you got your eye on?

You can search by price on London boat show boats here:

No sign of the Sealine Sport29, then.

Also, all boats show up with "no picture".

Not good,
