Boat Owner Stole my Battery thread...

I queried this with Sandyman in the original thread but he didn't respond, just as he hasn't responded to my post above.

Seems he is very selective in what questions he does answer. Maybe his laptop is on the blink again?

I suppose it is up to him but then he cannot moan if others don't like that.

Earlier I was replying on another question re CCTV and remembered the OP had posted a picture of the "offending" boat he had obtained from the marina CCTV. I do hope the marina staff met their requirements under the DPA in giving him that picture. It would appear that the OP in posting that picture may also have fallen foul of the DPA.;)

You imagine the UK's foreign policy to be better??? Have you studied the history of UK foreign policies right up to the present day? Putting past centuries war-mongering to one side, how would Afganistan and Iraqi citizens feel of this blinkered attitude towards american foreign policy, considering UK are their closest partners in crime.

Presumably the Iraquis would feel grateful for us getting rid of a dictator with a track record of gassing and using chemical weapons on his people not to mention torture at will and the Afghans for us giving them a chance of democracy free of the women stoning hand chopping religious bigots of the taleban.

Mind you I guess that lots of our left leaning fellow citizens would oprefer that we left the Iraquis and Afghans to suffer ubder their previous regimes and indeed to develop a good sound base for terrorists.

That has got to go down as the biggest "drift" I have ever seen.:)

Simplistic

Sadam, Mubarak, Ghadaffi, Shah, Bin Laden, Mujahadin, Taliban, Khazi, etc etc were all US employees or recipients of support when it suited.

The kill rate of supposed Christian to supposed Muslim is between 10/100 to one. (Higher in Palestine)

Bush felt he had to kick the c**p out of someone, it really didn't matter who. All he knew was inaction was not a political option.

Blair the Holy was so for up Dubya's a**e that he went for Jihad/Crusade as well.

Afganistan has kicked out superpowers routinely and gone on their own way.

Iraq was a UK invented failed state from the start, like Palestine.

Terrorists or freedom fighters, it depends who write the histories. The French resistance, the Irgun, The Stern Gang, Menachim Begin, are brave heroes, US munitions never get sprayed round innocent locations (or UK troops or hostages) and if they did, Blair tells us that the people hurt would never hold a grudge...

Phew!

Rant over

Anyone recommend an anchor?

DPA completely irrelevant - it refers to personal information.

Another common misconception is that you cant take photos of (say) your son playing in his soccer team unless the school/other parents/police/council/do-gooder approves.

Health and Safety and Data Protection are not nearly as proscriptive as above mentioned school/other parents/police/council/do-gooders would have you believe

see "common myths" fact sheet issued by Info Commissioners Office here

Not irrelevant at all with regard to CCTV as the DPA also covers images of people as well as information about people that can be derived from images.

Hope that helps.

Yes and no - I refer you to the link in my previous message, and other explanations from the ICO site.

The point is that a whole "industry of myth" has been created around DPA and HSA. Maybe not 99%, but at least 75% of the time that some official tells you it cant be done/has to be done this or that way because of "Data protection" or "Health and Safety" they are talking unadulterated testicular objects.

It is driven by fear of litigation and the unwillingness of anyone to take responsibility for a decision, let alone the time and effort to find out what the law actually[/I ]says rather than assume a worst case scenario and work with what you think it says.

If we skippered boats the same way we would never get off the mooring.

And being empowered by statute or regulation to affect how other people live their lives can be addictive. There is scope for a PhD study of the psychological traits that predominate in bureaucrats, and whether they are self-selecting......
