Boat names. The good the bad and the offensive

Have seen 'Passing Wind' sailing years ago at Cookham. Also 'Moveover Darling' on an Enterprise there.

'Don't Panic' is on the Solent.

Saw this on Sunday up river from Wivenhoe.

Also in Brightlingsea there is

"The Office" and "The Yard"

Well at least you can tell your boss where you are when he phones up to ask.....

:D:D:D

There is - or was - a short Narrowboat in the Staines area called The Bishop.

For me it was strange that the owner was not a clergyman

"I'm off to see the Bishop m'dear..."

Apparently the name was something to do with aeroplanes (Somebody, please do enlighten me)

I like oddball names - it helps to engage folks while waiting for locks.

.

No aircraft maker called Bishop unless it was very small. Only aviation thing on "The Bishop" I can find on google is a pilot in WWII.

The one I find most offensive is C*N*U*T, name of a mobo! I like Dad Won, which I've seen on a yacht! I wonder what he won, or if he just won a battle to have a boat.

A nice name I saw while crawling the ditch near Hemel Hempstead was Misses Bridges. It was a narrow boat and as they generally have low air draft I expect it does.

I saw 'Bonus Ball' on a Bav up at Ipswich...easy to work out where the money for that one came from.. my fave was a small rowing boat 'Half witt' tender to 'Peewitt'
Happy daze...

Interested to see the name Passing Wind is at Cookham. I owned this Merlin Rocket in the early eighties. She was a beautiful boat.built by Rowsells for the Boat Show. Happy days.

Some years ago, when I moored a Tomohawk raggie on a swinging mooring in Itchenor Reach, the boat next to me was called 'The Vicar of Bray' - and its tender was called 'Choirboy'.

Just occurred to me that I now moor at Bray Marina - scary..........(well, it is with both NR and Ramage in relatively close attendance :D )

On the latter tone, our house is called "Chestnuts" so the rowing boat is "Conkers"
