I have a Contessa26 which I have just painted, and I need to put her name on her, but where? and what are the rules about numbers and where do I put them and what size? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

This is Britain, there are no rules. Except for Part 1 registration, which insists ont he number and registered tonnage to be carved intot hte main bulkhead.
The traditional place for the name is on the transom, also dodgers if you have them. I wouldn't bother with a registration number.

or pay the £20 and they send it to you on a nice bit of teak to fix to the boat somewhere.

Port & Stbd on the bow and on dodgers... makes port control or locks etc job easier as you approach so they can warn you or call you.

You don't mess with King Neptune! Or he'll bite your ass.

To keep him onside you gotta perform a name change ceremony.

Google and find out. You need a dignitary to say the right words, and plenty of alcohol - some to splash on the boat and some to swig.

Don't take any chances!

Just redone mine, got a quote from the sign chappie and choked, so bought a machine and made my own.
