Boat in build pics (Squadron 78)

I guess they are happy with the extra attention you gave them ....

I couldn't agree more! Having looked at the Sunseeker and Sealine boats on offer at LIBS, my wife and I ordered a brand-new 2011 Squadron 55 at the show (probably one of the last to be made?), in no small part due to JFM's great posts here (and of course, Nick's easy-going family-run-business manner - I have no idea why some of the other stand's sales guys think the kind of people who buy these boats could be pressured in to buying something like this!)

Nick (EBY) didn't seem the least surprised to hear of customers noting JFM's indirect referals (despite my not actually ever talking to JFM, or getting the time to meet him at LIBS!) I did see another Sq78 in the flesh at Essex Marina though - I hope it goes away before mine arrives, because I'd hate to see that Sq78 and mine side-by-side!

For my part, having just completed 2 yearts of really enjoyable Sealine ownership, I'd happily recommend Chris, Nick, and Darren at Penton Hook (I bought a brand-new 2009 Sealine F34 from them). I plan on writing a little more about my first two year's experiences in another thread, where Chris et al should expect excessive praise indeed. Here's to hoping that EBY are as good too! (They certainly seem so, so far!)

Thanks for all the great posts JFM!

JFM , there are a few 58's there , but it is possible ... I was there in 2006/7 .
Let's stay in contact , I can pass you a valuable list of very good restaurants in Croatia than , for your 2012 trip .....

My boat is currently moored in Croatia. Marina Frapa in Rogoznica. I would pay a lot of money for a list of good restaurants in Croatia, believe me! :)

here you are, completely foc :)
sorry jfm, this doesn't belong in this fantastic thread

When you’re in Dubrovnik, you want to go to one of these restaurants:
“Proto”, (right in the center)
Or
“Nautica,” (on the outside of the “Pile” entrance to the old city)
Or
"Gills" near ploce city port

In Cavtat, the best is
”Leut”

On the islands: (from south to nord)

On Sipan
“Konoba Kod Marka” (reservation is obligatory in summer season)
“Tauris”

On Peljesac, Towards Ston:
“Nico” in Kobas
“Bakus” in Ston
“Kapetanova kuca” in Mali Ston (if you don’t mind walking 1mile)

On Mljet
“Burbon” in Polace
“Marijina konoba” in Prozura

in Hvar
“Gatiful”
“Zori” on island Palmizana

On Lastovo
“Triton”

On Brac
“Pipo”

In Trogir
“Frenki”

In Split
“Duje” and
“Boban”

Welcome to forum. Congratulations on the new boat - that's a very fine ship capable of serious crusing and I hope you have loads of fun in her. Nick and team at Essex are top guys. Totally honest and straightforward to deal with, all-round helpful, sensible pricing. You wont regret being customers of them

My boat should be at Essex marina for a couple of weeks end of February, so maybe see you there as yours is being commissioned?

Feel free to put a post up with pics of the 55 and showing us the spec. We'd all be very interested to see. Are you keeping her in UK waters? Best wishes anyway

Tee hee! Not as daft as it sounds Phil. The trip involves 2 locks and is along the Thames, thru the Thames barrier, then turn left up to Felixstow, then turn left and motor up river Orwell for an hour, to Ipswich. It's a very tricky bit of coast, with shallows and stuff. I have no time to do prep chartwork. And I have no idea what half the controls on the boat actually do. The guy who will drive the boat is Martyn, in charge of Fairline Ipswich, and Fairline's main test pilot. He sea trials (for the last few years) all the Sq78s so has probably driven 30+ of them, not to mention loads of other boats. As regards trusting someone else to drive MATCH Martyn is right at the top of the list. I'm sure I can have a go at the helm but really I'm glad he is skipper not me. Don't worry: I'll put thousands of miles on the boat this summer as skipper :-)

MATCH got to Libs by sea. It was launched at Fairline's Ipswich site and went by sea right up to Excel exhibition hall, as do all the boats over about 55-60 feet

You wont go thru the Thames Barrier as you exit through the lock next to Gallions point marina (King George V) and the Barrier is just south of Excel, I could just see it from my hotel window. They dont allow boat movements in the dock next to runway while a plane is taking off or landing as I heard a few complaints of delays when bringing boats in for show

Yep, spot on directions aquapower. The runway actually closes (for safety) whilst the boats motor alongside and then pass across the eastern end on their way out. A high workload for a mile or so with 3 bridges to lift/swing and a lock to pass to get out to the river.

Ours should be arriving at around the same time... We plan a factory visit tis week with Nick, so I'll get some photos and post the final spec then, but it's a Sq55 with D-13 900s, and most of the options ticked (B&O, unde lighting, etc)..

I'll also post on our first couple of years with our current F34.

We're based in Chatham Marina, right now but planning a trip to Essex Marina shortly for a couple of weeks (the Chatham lock is closing for a bit), so we might eye our new Sq55 from a distance while EBY complete some custom work onsite, so should see you there! Look out for a Sealine F34 'Tinkerbell'.

Might eventually take the Sq55 to SoF (we've love spending time there, got married in Eze, but have never sailed there).

Leaving LIBS

Came across this now familiar ship parked up outside Excel, moored up behind her for a while whilst preparing for the journey back to Poole.
