Boat in build pics (Squadron 78)

Fairline just sent me a few pics of the finished job. I'm really pleased with the interior finished look (it will have bright coloured cushions when done, but you get the idea)

Definitely the dogs bollox:)

Looking F.A.B. J, Love the chart on the wall (the 3D thingy), Bobby is doing one for us, looks very swish indeed. I shall enjoy my size 12's tramping all over her at LIBS :-)

It's a nice chart T. Bonifacio Straits. My parents visited Bobby at his house in Kinsale to collect it a couple of weeks ago. Lovely place, overlooking Kinsale Harbour. Turns out we're related. Bobby is a Nash, and his grandfather is (was) my grandmother's 1st cousin or something like that; I might have it a bit wrong. The Nashes are from Limerick, which is where my mother is from. Small world eh?

A friend of mine is about to order one for a Royal Huisman he has bought, so Bobby is getting some trade via this forum

Well, I wonder who wouldn't.
Utterly beautiful home away from home J, congrats.
I forwarded the stair pics to those friends of mine who suggested the glass solution, and they also agree that the final result is very nice. They only commented that they would have started the banister one step below, and made the diagonal part of it in the same shape and material of the other stair going to the lower deck.
There's just no pleasing to all architects, I guess... :)

We debated starting it one step lower, but decided on the higher step. Easier to discuss when you're actually on the boat, but it felt better to me higher up, and it made it easier to have it very stiff - the thing is boomerang shape so difficult to find a stiff point (on a plastic boat) to bolt it to at the top, and the bigger you make it the less stiff it becomes of course.

The diagonal part will be covered in black leather, like the banister to the lower deck. You cannot tell from the pics but there is a recess in the s/s where the black leather piece fits. It had not been fitted when the photo was taken

Absolutely gorgeous. Has she been launched yet? And how are you getting her down to Antibes? (Need any crew? ;-) :)

Yup LJS she was launched Monday (6/12/10). She is afloat in those photos.

I'm debating ship cargo vs self drive to Antibes, but I'll prob use the ship. I think I'd rather spend a week/10 days cruising in the Med than runnin 10 hours/day every day. But I keep changing my mind on this, especially when i see the price of the ship...

My one regret with my "dash" to the Med was that we didnt spend more time doint it.
It is an opportunity to really enjoy a different style of boating to the Med cruising you know and love.
Apart from that you REALLY DO get to know your boat and "shake her down" during the warranty period. On the flip side, I'm sure you will be putting the hours on her anyway.

The interior looks great and even better than I imagined it would.

So glad you've gone for satin finishes on the wood, rather than gloss...I know gloss is liked by many still but personally I think satin brings the finish more into the 21st century, and looks far more contemporary.

You'll have to post some pics of your house at some point too as I like your interior style!

John, I haven't posted much on this thread (too busy with babies and builders!), but have been following it from the start, and it's been a fabulous insight for all of us who have never ordered a new boat. The end result is stunning, both in looks and specification, and I can't wait to step aboard in sunny Antibes next year, or maybe even in the solent in the spring.

You can put me down as third for crew behind LJS and Starfire. Not sure my navigation skills are still current, but as you know I make a mean pot of tea.

Maybe sell/auction off legs? Sort of three/four crew per leg and auction off places. Solent to Brest as one leg, Brest to la Coruna as L2 and so on?? Might even cover your fuel costs??

But defo put me down for a leg or two.

This is an excellent layout and decor JFM, top shelf! The contrast of the lighter coloured wood and darker floors works really well, what is the material in the centre section of the dining table and what did you choose for the work sufaces in the galley? I am definately going to try out those internal stairs and have a closer look on the stand. Congratulations.

No, I think he has his sights set a little higher than a Fletcher, though he wouldn't say no at the moment. Perhaps not a good idea while he's at Cambridge, can just see him annoying all the punts on the river Cam.:o

Well taking her yourself would definitely put this amazing post well over the 100k viewings mark... unless you decide to start a new one for the jurney South of course!

Congratulations on both a stunning boat and a riveting post, it's been compulsive viewing 95,000 times so far!

It saddens me that Fairline are laying off another 80 people, I read in the latest MBY. I only hope that's not because your build is now finished, it would be such a shame if the skilled people who have put so much time and effort into your project were laid off.

At least this post has been good publicity, they deserve it.

Looking forward to seeing it close up at LIBS if I may.

Yup I'm really pleased with the light/dark wood thing. I suppose it doesn't feel boaty, at least not in any traditional kind of way, and instead it feels more apartmenty, but I think that's ok on this size boat. Incidentally that dark wood floor is only in the galley/dining/helm area. Aft, in the saloon, I have carpet becuase I thought all-wood would be a bit barn-like. Each to their own on that of course

Centre section of table is black leather. The leather is wrapped onto a board (it's hard on the board, no sponginess) and dropped into a recess in the table. This is custom one-off table, as I didn't like either of FL's two stnadard tables. I did like their dinette sofa idea though, as opposed to just chairs around the table. (There will be three black leather chairs at that table, when they arrive from Italy). Sunseeker do a similar set up, including the leather strip, on Y80 as one of the options, see pic below

Galley tops are black granite with sparkly bits. It's thin granite, bonded to board, with just the edges thick. This saves weight. Sunseeker do the same with their granite
