Boat in build pics (Squadron 78)

Excuse the geekiness of this post and hopefully the pics will get more glamorous later but here are some first pics of my new ride in build, taken today. The hull is nearly finished - it comes out of the mould in about two weeks. The close up shows where the port side fin stabiliser will go. They told me the lay up here was specified by Olesinski's office and is "5x7". Each "5" is CSM-woven-CSM-woven-CSM, then allowed to cure, 7 times. They told me the hull laminate is 100mm thick a metre all around the stabs, and they are just starting construction of some frames around this point (using foam formers)

It was a beautifully neat job, very carefully done, and the whole thing looked a bit bigger than I was expecting :)

There are lots of other mouldings done or nearly done, including the deck and internal moulds, and the hardware has started to arrive. Eg the two gensets were sitting on pallets and the flybridge aluminium spaceframe support structure arrived on a truck while I was there

If you've had enough "in build" pics please shout, otherwise I'll update this from time to time

Feck. You've only gone and ordered the 78m by mistake.:D

Interesting. I'd ask them to keep the two plugs, when they will cut the fin axis holes in that part of the hull.
Aside from being a good way to check the lamination quality, they could be also used as modern sculptures for the interiors... :)

Oh, and re. your last point, you were obviously joking, weren't you? ;)

Yup, I was joking :) Ref keeping the plugs, good idea. They read this forum, so Mike-at-Fairline please can you save the two plugs and give me one as a souvenir and I'll get it put into an acrylic cube block as an ornament

Nice location, by the look of it.
I can't remember if you already specced daytanks with fuel filtration systems between them and the main tanks.
That's actually more typical of very long range boats, but it could be worth a thought, considering the usage you have in mind.

jfm, please keep the posts of the build coming, I and I am sure a few hundred others so very interested. Lay up sounds incredible, interesting how you see the step ups in the hull to the bow, probably only noticeable now, when interior is in place just the bilges get shallower!

My folks had there last boat built from scratch, they visited the factory in Holland 6 times during build and have a album of the build, the sort of stuff that is unrepeatable.

Have read today the wonderful thread highjacked (in a nice way)by posts between MapisM and yourself with regards to flybridge steps design through the galley. Got to say last designes spot on IMHO... but the lovely thing it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, this is your boat, and your choice and will be something as close to perfection as it can be as far as you are concerned, sod everyone else!

Yup, it will be good to have an album of it in build, and unrepeatable as you say. The twin gensets is a nice touch. Each one can supply the whole boat, so normally you just run one. Each one is 3.3litre diesel and makes 100amps, so the only time you need to fire up two is if you need >100amps, which will be possible but mostly not the case. Airco is say 40amps (it's 3 phase to avoid start-up spikes); at-anchor stabs maybe 15-25amps depending on conditions; 24volt drain (thru batt charger) 10amps say, and that leaves 25-35amps for the galley Also it's nice to be able to choose which side to run if you have awkward neighbours, and to share out the hours across 2 machines I suppose, and to have the backup if one breaks down

I'll update the thread with more pics but it will be a slow burn because the build is now till December 22nd and I'm not likely to get to the factory that often. Once a month maybe
 
Would it not be reasonable for somebody at Fairline to take photos at agreed intervals, perhaps every 2 weeks or even every week, and email them to you?

I only managed to visit the Alnmaritec yard twice when the OSRV for the Oil Terminal here was being built, but the guys in the design office very kindly sent us update photos every couple of weeks or so. Although they were mostly in pdfs, and not very conducive to posting on here.

So you sucumbed then jfm, presume current boat is now sold? Can you get the new owner to report back on the ultrasonic results. Think in your last report you weren't overly impressed?
What are you going to do to get your boaty fixes for the next year?

jfm, Excuse my ignorance,.... I assumed stabilisers only worked when you were moving.... they also work when stationary??.... Or am I really showing my ignorance, do you have 2 types of stabilisers, fin type for travelling motion and a gyro or the like for at anchor......although from layup I can't see any space has been left for a gyro... (sorry, just struggling to keep up with this superyacht tech)..

...and build will take to December... is that for the finished article??!! that sounds incredible if it is...
 
Blimey, extra fuel tanks, twin genny's, stabilisers ... Is the guy in the last photo predicting the vessels's freeboard :-) Seriously, what a monster! Do they really do these things as standard with no internal stairs? I bet the crew stay fit.
