Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

Sure but you kinda monumentally miss the point about integrity and fair dealings.

Wasn't the argument about it being best not to know how things are prepared used by Fawlty Towers' chef in an episode entitled Basil the Rat, when the proprietor was concerned that the cleanliness of the kitchen might be a concern to the public health inspector?

Evening jfm

Feeling your anger and frustration with this rerouting and unload/reload, and of course the consequent delay to actually getting M2 home to PV. You'll deserve a proper drink when you do get her here.

Any forumites or other agents on the ground in Gandia able to provide any kind of a sitrep?

Cheers
Jimmy

Shipping it is the sensible option with out a doubt
Define 'sensible'.
Assuming that you
a) have no time constraints (hence you can stop along the way and enjoy the places, wait for proper weather windows, etc.), AND
b) enjoy cruising,
Then the sensible option is using boats they way God intended, surely? :)

Of course, in many cases the above assumptions aren't true, particularly the first.
But the fact that many owners (jfm included, afaik) have to deal with that doesn't make shipping more sensible per se, does it?

No mapis. The first time they told me match would be offloaded onto the dockside in Gandia was after the ship had left Palma. Otherwise yes I'd just have flown to Palma and offloaded there.
Geez, amazing. That really sounds rather stupid than "just" unfair.
After all, they missed a good chance to keep your whole payment without having to unload/reload in Gandia, and then bring the boat to Genoa.
In fact, surely they would have argued that it was your decision to unload earlier, hence rejecting upfront any request for partial refund.
Otoh, since you would have preferred to unload in Palma, rather than go through the other pointless steps, you would have accepted that.
So, even if at the end of the day you probably wouldn't have been a happy bunny anyway, they also managed to miss a potential win-win situation, making you feel even more unhappy....

yup that's all correct mapis. If they had told me about the Gandia thing in time for me to have flown to Palma I would have offloaded in palma thus saving them cost and time in gandia. And there would be no question of refund because it is pretty much same shipping cost on these routes whichever port you choose to unload at, afaik. They do indeed seem a bit stupid as well as unpleasant to to deal with!

So what's wrong with asking them to leave it in Gandia and cruising it to Antibes from there?

(BTW, the fuel burn details that I just read a few pages ago, makes it sound much more affordable than I realized. I guess I was too scared to ask the questions for that size bracket....now I just need to find the money to get the boat in the first place)

I'm relieved you think the fuel cost is small :-)

Alas and i cannot collect Match in gandia. The devil is in the detail. If you look a few pages above at the videos you'll see the gear (cranes) is on the stbd side of the ship. She therefore moors port side to when lifting yachts to/from the water, and stbd side to when lifting to/from concrete. In Gandia she is obviously stbd side to.

Can they not put her onto the dock, let the ship leave, then have a dock crane put her into the water?

Pete

I love the way you make it sound so straightforward! Yes I suppose, if I pay for the crane, and the use of wharf time (because a ship can't park there till this is done). Then the cradle is sat on the dock in Gandia, while the lorry waiting to bring it back to Southampton is as I type charging down to Italy, so the lorry has to be diverted, and when it arrives in Gandia I have to pay for a crane again to load the cradle onto the lorry...

All in, with the extra 300nm of Spanish fuel at €1.60, I think it will cost around around twenty grand

Hope this puts your "mind at ease":o

So, you have to pay for the cradle to be trucked back to the UK? Is that right as it seems way OTT to send a lorry just for that at a cost of must be£2-3k. Much cheaper to scrap it I would have thought.

The cargo ship is finally underway again, ETA in Genoa 28th at 2PM.

I hope all goes well John after this flipping long wait!

Mike
Yep. It's going south of majorca, to get well south of some northerly winds blowing down the golfe du lyon, but its tanking along at 14 kts so Genoa Friday morning looks very do-able. I'm going to genoa tomorrow night

I got some calls today, and it turns out that through this forum the owner of the manhattan 73 has got to know that his boat got unloaded and reloaded in Gandia too. Came as an unwelcome surprise. Safe to say, he has formed an opinion of sevenstar :D
