Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

Couldn't those numbers be related to what really matters on the road - i.e. boat+trailer?
I mean, just think of the height: I would hope that in the 5.90 m they considered also the distance between the keel and the road, for obvious reasons! :)
Which could possibly explain the much heavier weight.
OTOH, the lower beam is difficult to understand. Maybe it's related to the trailer "footprint"? Just a thought...
 
According to the road traffic requirements, the full width of the rig is required, not the trailer. On the same basis, I think you are right about the load, as this will probably include the trailer.

Just a thought.

The other thing you could do is limit the amount of glass and liquid you keep on board. If it helps I can take any superfluous wine or champagne. Hey, think nothing of it friend, it's just the kind of guy I am. Always thinking of others :)

Shouldn't the rule of thumb be... If you have to crane the individual onboard, they're perhaps a little too enormous ?

Hi John, I am afraid that I am going to have to correct you there ! They are actually Oval Stainless Strainers. Fabricated out of stainless for Fairline. We make them in all sorts of shapes and sizes. We have a patent on the quick release clamping ring and the 3 removable quadrants that pull up against the tapper. We have been supplying these to Fairline for 20 or so years. Essentially they are custom product to a standard design, we can offer many shapes and sizes and port combinations. Sorry ! SIMON.

I think the loa is done conventionally and but the width is in "suffolk metres". These are calculated by pacing out the distance and counting the paces on one's fingers.

So, 1,2,3,4,5,6 = 5 metres.

Everyone in the area will understand so there's nothing to worry about. ;)

I thought this type of thing was just up the road? NFF, normal for Norfolk. Counting using fingers needs multiples of 6. :)

Ah, thanks Simon. Very happy to be corrected and those strainers are very nice indeed!

I was at factory yesterday and here are a few updates. The boat will be loaded onto a truck thursday, day after tomorrow, so it very nearly finished. Next time I see it will be in Ipswich when it is in or about to be in the water. Seatrials are all booked with Cat, Sleipner and Fairline engineers next Wedndesday 18th April. I'll try to go if i have the time - not sure yet

First here are some e/room shots taken with the very good panorama thing in iPhone, and the third pic is the stabs pump. The wood on the floor is just boot protection - the finished floors are moulded GRP non slip with white gelcoat

Here are a 2 shots of the galley. There is the main galley section plus an extra bit of galley/worktop under the port windscreen beyond the guy in the green jumper, same as Match 1. In all these pics the floor is covered but it is a dark (almost black) wood floor in the galley/dinette area and in the saloon

And there is this dinette to starboard of the galley, with this silver sofa. Table is not installed yet - it is in walnut with a black (fake) crocodile skin centre panel. There will be freestanding chairs on the port side of the table

Below are various saloon shots. The sofa/chairs have been redesigned to look a bit different from standard and also to make them much softer than standard, and they were really nice wen i sat on them for the frst time yesterday. The jukebox is a BeoSound 5, like on Match1

The guest cabins all have Fusion 700s with DVD to Samsung thin TVs, hidden induction speakers in the ceiling void, and an iPod/phone connector lead in one of the cabinets

And finally a couple of shots of the crew/utility area aft. First pic is looking aft with stairs to swim platofrm at left of picture. The white cushions on the bench in front of the laundry machines (emergency bed for kids, plus a crew sofa) aren't right and are being reworked

Looks absolutely fantastic and very very contemporary! Congratulations, once again!

Re: the cupboards in the last pic. Will the bench be used as a landing space for the said items? Is there some sort protection against scratces under the cushions ? It's just that everything looks so nice.

Scubaman, yes, the cushions do become a landing space for laundry and tools/spares. Actually I asked for them to be made in grey sunbrella but Fairline nicely did them in white leather to match the rest of the boat and look nicer. Thing is, the guy who makes them is MJ in Essex, who is fantastic and does work quickly and at sensible prices, so I can just unzip these covers anytime, every winter if needed, and he can make new ones. It will be good for these to serve as a test bed for the wear resistance of the white leather
 
As I hope to be in Swanwick on my boat it would be lovely to see Match then. However I must say that not only is this thread instilling a strong inferiority complex on most of us, it is costing me real money.

I have just agreed with SWMBO to purchase all new customised bedding, cushions etc for my small craft on the basis of making it look more designed. I had to hide the crockery post for fear of repercussions but I am afraid that is next (mutterings have been heard).

BOAT = Break Out Another Thousand!

Hi Jfm, upholstery (and whole boat) looks stunning. Wasn't sure about the white teak but it looks great. With such a manhattan club vibe going on you may yet be lucky enough to get a top dj to spin some tunes on the B&O...
