Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

There is a product I've stumbled across - it seems to be badged under various names.
The free version is M8 Free Clipboard
You can get it at CNET - here http://download.cnet.com/M8-Free-Clipboard/3000-2384_4-10267618.html
I've had a quick go but it seems to me that you can then bulk upload your pics to Photobucket as usual
Then do as Mark says above but as you click the IMG CODE to get the link, M8 will pop the links into its Clipboard Manager.
In M8, under Tools - General - Set the Paste Mode to Indirect
Open up your YBW "Post Reply" or "New Post" edit window
Then Select all your links in the M8 Clipboard Manager
Right click and click "Bulk Paste to Document"
M8 will then paste all your pics - one at a time - putting a gap between them

Alternatively, you can Ctrl Click in the M8 Manager and the link will paste into where you left the cursor in the YBW forum editor.

I've only just found M8 so there may be a better way but this seems to work reasonably well - slight improvement on Mark's suggestion.

The link above to M8 is for the free version which limits the number of links to 25 but you could buy the full version - maybe

warning - photobucket is useless if you have all your photos in one album like I do, it is slow to the point of unworkable.

you can press organise and sort this out. Then all your previous posts to here break. So don't do this.

why do these IT idiots meddle?

Yup - I've started new albums already. You gotta keep each album to say 25-50 pics max. It's hideous.

Hurricane, thanks, that sounds pretty good. I'll give it a go

I've always kept my albums split down so I think I will be OK
I've also got some albums within albums so there might be a problem there.
Photobucket has always been quite slow when manipulating photos etc. anyway

Yup I have a stack of pics erik from last week. Unfortunately photobucket has just disabled the facility where you can tick say 20 picture vthumbnails and generate the bbcode (the [IMG} stuff) for all 20 in one click. You now have to do them one by one. It takes ages to make a long picture post now. Really annoying.

In your desired Photobucket album, you can hit "organize" above the first pic in the album, and then you will get all the pics in your album on one page. Then select (highlight) the pics you want while holding the "ctrl" button down. Then on the bottom you press "link" and box will pop up and you can copy all the image codes for the the pics you selcted in one click.
Once finished, exit the organizer.

that works :) well done SAP.

No excuse now JFM we're looking forward to those photos :)

Thanks - if that works it will do for me
Only got my tablet with me at the moment
If it works on my desktop, I'll dump that clipboard manager.

Wow thanks SAP. Fantastic stuff. You've saved all of us hours of work!
I'll postsome pics later

Happy to help :) spent some time in frustration before figuring it out. PB was better before. Never understood why they went backwards....

Looking forward to more pics JFM. Always enjoying looking at this thread and especially appreciate the technical bit :)

Sorry I’ve been slow to update this but photobucket has been a complete pita. However SAP’s revelation above has made me make friends with p’bucket again. You can get all your bbcode in one hit if you follow SAP’s simple instructions. Thanks SAP!

The boat is nearly finished and the lorry has been reserved to take it from factory about 10th April. It should be launched in the sea in Ipswich sometime on the weekend of 13+14 April

First of all below are some overall shots of the hull.
a91hull.jpg

a94hullos.jpg

a95hullos.jpg

a98hullinshed.jpg

The pic below of the bow with the Fairline guys for scale makes me think “Waves? Bring ‘em on!”, though life at sea aint quite like that lol
a93hullos.jpg

The shot below shows Hurricane’s idea – an anchor cam. I think the position will be ok but if I need to move it I can easily. Main thing is the wiring is all in. I’ll post some images from it when I can
a96hullanccam.jpg

Engines are running in the test tank in the below shot and the mast is on with all the radar etc tested. No GPS mushrooms etc are visible – they are all inside the starboard dummy dome to keep things as tidy as possible. In fact there are 4 gps mushrooms plus a navtex aerial in the dummy dome so they would have looked a right mess if left visible. I don’t much like the status TV aerial dish and might lose that
a97hullengrunning.jpg

Next 2 pics below show the custom aft deck staircase to the flybr. These don’t have the handrails fitted yet but I’m very pleased with them. There was nothing wrong with the standard stairs but I just wanted a different look plus the downlighting - each step has an LED downlight with white LEDs and lenses to make 4 pencil streaks of light
a99aftstairs2.jpg

a910aftstairs.jpg

This is the flybridge with even the cushions in place
a911flyfromstern.jpg

a912flymid.jpg

Flybridge dining table is below. This is slightly bigger than the standard build – I thought that was too narrow. It doesn’t have Fairline’s pop up LED lights that you see in the brochure shots because I’m not their biggest fan. There is a squares and chequer board pattern generally on the boat. The seats all have squares stitched into them, sort of like 7 inch square tiles (bit like Azimut and Absolute iirc) and the lower aft deck dining table will have chequer board teak grain too
a912bflytable.jpg

Below are the fly helm and the Recaro helm seat with armrests – Garmin GRID controllers will go into these arms when I get around to it. There will be three of these Recaros in a row but only the helm chair has arms; the arms are so wide they wouldn’t fit on all the chairs unless I spaced the chairs further apart than I wanted. The 3 seats are organised so that you can get in/out of any seat without climbing over anyone. The upholstery is Sunbrella plus cadet grey cloth, all over the flybridge. I think the blue tint persepx lid on the glove box might be a mistake - it is my doing not Fairline's becuase of course they noramally do it in white to match the stnadard white dashboard. I'll try it and see. It's easy to get this remade in black opaque perspex or something. The painter team didn't want to paint it in Awlgrip but I could give that a go perhaps. No big deal. The glove box houses any junk you want plus it has the Fusion 700 music head unit inside and a 12v phone charger socket and a jack plug to connect your ipod to the Fusion music

a913flyseats.jpg

a915flyseats.jpg

Below are a few e/room shots. First general view (I’ll get some with w/a lens next time)
a916engineroom1.jpg

Below is the stbd genset. On a boat like this with no wing fuel tanks you lose a metre of accom space (hence the princess 78 for example feels bigger inside) but you get fantastic access to machinery. There is a proper little corridor here, to stbd of stbd engine, between the engine and the genset for perfect service access etc
a917engineroomstbdgen.jpg

This is the 10hp electric motor for the hydraulics when engines are off (stabs at anchor, thrusters, winch) plus you can also see the port engine PTO – black thing at bottom of picture
a918engineroomhydrpump.jpg

Below are two quick shots of the swim platform. The railings click in and out and can go in various positions. I’m still vvv pleased with the white tds caulk
b11swimplat.jpg

b12swimplat.jpg

Now moving inside. First pic below is aft crew bed, and you can see the custom window.
b13crewbed.jpg

Urgh, I’ve just hit the 20pics limit. I’ll continue in another post….

…Continued
This shows the utility crew area sink and worktop. These areas might look straightforward but loads of effort has gone in here. The sink is non standard because I wanted a contemporary square shape, and the straight plus angled white splashbacks behind the sink all come out to give me access to the hardware behind, namely trim tabs and the hydraulic pump for the hilo. On previous s78 builds the access has been a bit hard work imho, too much to screwdriver dismantle, so I have worked with the great Fairline build team to get perfect access to all machinery on this boat. The colour scheme in here is all sharp black and white, plus walnut. I might chuck in some purple cushions too.
b14crewsink.jpg

b16crewlaundry.jpg

This is the crew shower
b17crewshower.jpg

Now inside the main boat, below is lower helm. Scuse the bus driver steering wheel angle; it’s adjustable! The seats are taller than normal, with headrests, and are on little s/s legs to raise them 80mm for better view out. They’re all electric Recaros in black leather with silver stitching. The corner of the seat base is usually curved but on this boat they have facetted it 45 deg to keep up the contemporary look
b18lowerhelmfacet.jpg

This shows the facetting / de-curving again
b18afacet.jpg

Here is the galley well on its way. There are two Miele ovens (one is a combi microwave job), a Meile pro 60cm d/washer with electric closing and opening door and 30min cycle, SubZero 110v 60hz fridge/freezer/icemaker imported from US, induction hob, insinkerator, a custom extractor fan with 2x power of standard boat and a cleaner route to the outside, 2x the amount of lighting, all LED, water tank gauge and watermaker control, and lots of other details learnt from Match 1.
b19galley.jpg

b111galleyaftend.jpg

And the galley stairs – these are a carbon copy of Match 1 (except welds ground out and polished) because they were such a success. Well, a success imho an ioo of others on here – no-one else seems to want them :--) Actually that’s not quite true – Fairline built a sq78 with internal stairs a year ago, but they were boxed in like the old sq74, not floating like these ones
b110galleystairs.jpg

The whole boat is fitted with wired heat and smoke detectors – 12 of them, including in machinery spaces (e/room, the aircon chiller room, behind the tumble drier, etc). Pic of one below. They’re the neatest most recessed I could find. When these are triggered, alarms sound in lower helm, crew cabin, master bedroom and flybridge, and the control panel tells me where the fire is. I reckon you need this on a boat this size. If I had a fire in say the tumble drier (right aft behind the engines) while cruising along sitting on the flybr the fire would have taken hold before I’d know, but with this SeaFire system I know straight away. This lot is not wired to the engines so an alarm doesn’t disable the boat. They just alert me to go and put the fire out with an extinguisher. (The e/room has auto fire extinguishers obviously thsat do stop the engines).
b112smokedetect.jpg

This is a little detail at front of dining area – japanese-ish glass
b112ajapglass.jpg

The next few pics below are master bedroom. The bed head looks a bit rubbish below but when the leather panels and LED lights are fitted I’ll post a better pic. This is all one off design to my scruffy drawings beautifully tidied up by Fairline’s team
b113masterheadbd.jpg

Below is dressing table/bureau/my office. Same design as Match 1. The right hand side will have a raised bit covered in black crocodile skin (fake!). The wenge lids along the back reveal 4 lockers for A4 filing
b114masterbureau.jpg

The trims round the bed are in snakeskin. Again fake – no animals died in making this boat afaik.
b115mastersnakeskin.jpg

This is the walk in wardrobe. There is USB cabling and inverter power in here because it will house printer/scanner/hard disk back up system etc. And a few clothes I suppose. The raised floor covers the starboard stab actuator
b115amasterwardrobe.jpg

The pic below shows some nice custom mirror detailing in master cabin, all in glossy wenge frames. I pinched this idea from hull #80 that was specced by a US customer who had some great ideas. Fair play though, because he used a few of my Match 1 ideas.
b115bmastermirrors.jpg

This is a bookcase that will go in the master cabin walk in wardrobe
b115cmasterbookcase.jpg

Here is master cabin bath – same concept as Match 1 in new colours. The tiles are italian Bisazza mosaics with white gold inserts. The avonite is jet black, and the walls are marine ply laminated with glossy metallic white formica-ish stuff. Colour will come from towels (purples, maybe a set of chilli reds, etc)
b116masterbath.jpg

Below is midships guest cabin. There are 2 identical cabins like this, both with sliding beds so they can be double or twins, and both with ensuite bathroom access. The headboards will be black leather and the walls are silver fabric. A wenge panel with bookshelf and music gear (Fusion 700 dvd, with hidden induction seakers in the ceiling) will be fitted on the centre of the wall above the headboard and the bed edges are black snakeskin like the pic above
b117twincab.jpg

Here is one of the guest cabin showers
b118showers.jpg

And finally guest cabin ensuite bathroom basin. Again the strong colour scheme is continued – white walls, dark wood floor, etc. I might swap the teak shower grating for black Avonite; not sure yet.
b119basininshowerroom.jpg

That’s the latest. I might get to the factory one more time before she hits the road, but I’m not sure. Otherwise I’ll post pics of the launch in Ipswich in 2.5 weeks. Exciting times ahead in next few weeks. She will definitely be at that Swanwick "british boat show" 17-19 May so anyone who is interested enough to still be reading this is very welcome to come aboard if you’re at that show. I will keep the fridge stocked with beer. We can exchange more details on here nearer time

absolutely wonderfull J,
again I'm so amazed with the finishing details,
have the impression that there are so many details again better the M1 ?
also the collor sheme is so much better and much more consistent, well done !

gradually I'm getting more and more used to the white caulking, who knows, one day I might even like it :D :D
The picture doesn't show, but I hope you have skipped that wooden corner protection on the wall near your bath ;-)

ones again, impressive stuff !!

Stunning boat indeed J, congrats.
Aren't you concerned that you might get an offer you can't refuse, well before 2013 season is over...? :)

Just a couple of thoughts:

I think the blue tint persepx lid on the glove box might be a mistake - it is my doing not Fairline's becuase of course they noramally do it in white to match the stnadard white dashboard. I'll try it and see. It's easy to get this remade in black opaque perspex or something. The painter team didn't want to paint it in Awlgrip but I could give that a go perhaps.
Yup, I'd definitely paint the cover with the same colour of the dashboard, if at all possible - see quick paint job below.
Of course you would still see the cover borders (which are missing in my retouched pic), but it's easy to guess that it would look better than dark, anyway.

Fwiw, I surely wouldn't.
It's not just a matter of colour matching here, it's also the feeling when touching the material barefoot that matters.
And nothing comes close to natural wood, in this respect.
If it weren't for that reason alone, personally I'd get rid of teak anywhere other than inside, in a GRP boat...

Hi JFM, I am simply stunned, now we are beginning to see how much difference your ocd approach to detail makes, the level of customisation makes this a truly unique ship, both you and Fairline should be vvv proud of the achievement. I have to say you may have gone a bit cheapskate with the central vacuum system shown in the er shot:rolleyes:

She's looking fantastic JFM, and it must be great for you seeing your ideas and designs come together at last. Looking forward to getting up close and personal with her in May :)

Hi JFM, I have to say you may have gone a bit cheapskate with the central vacuum system shown in the er shot:rolleyes:

Ah, but you are neglecting the transportability function of the central vacuum system - you can see the hub in the first interior shot under the floating staircase, and also in the master bedroom! :o :o

Brilliant thread JFM, thoroughly enjoyed reading.

I was also a bit underwhelmed by the "central" vacuum system, I can't help feeling there are better solutions on the market. I would probably have gone for flybridge repeaters for the chart plotter but I appreciate you were working to a budget. If I see anything cheap on my travels I'll ping you an email ;)

On the plus side having a little workshop with a sanding wheel in the cockpit will help when it comes to repairing the model quadcopter - remember it's not a toy !!

On a slightly more serious note this really does make you appreciate all that goes into building such a fine vessel. The planning required to ensure part 74 doesn't interfere with part 2043 16 weeks down the line is almost unimaginable. To then add in your level of customisation - the boys & girls in Oundle will breath a sigh of relief when she's out of the door en route to Ipswich.

You will be so engrossed in the detail that it's hard to stand back and look with a fresh pair of eyes. Every nook & cranny has an element you will have have pondered over in the wee small hours and at the moment all you can see are a collection of decisions. Should the glovebox be another colour - who the feck cares in the scheme of things look at the bloody boat it's a stunner !! For what it's worth I quite like the differentiation in colour. It tells me that there is a different function to this piece of the dash and you will naturally know it's a storage area. I like that. It's a continuation of the rest of the dash, each distinct element is a different colour to the gel coat. When everything is installed I suspect it will make more sense. But hey, a tiny spec in the grand scheme of things.

The end is most definitely in sight. I would be bursting with excitement. To know you'll be cruising in god's country soon before heading south is surely the icing on the cake.

Henry :)

Superb work, jfm. I am always astonished with the level of detail and the fore-thought which has gone into your new toy! Am I took late to call 'shotgun'?

Will definitely be in Swanick to see this girl in the flesh/GRP.

Must confess, the pic which really made me chuckle is the one of the Henry Hoover standing guard over the port engine...
