Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

Hi JFM....GREAT update pics THANK YOU.....(except E/R ones, 10 lashes!!!!!)... i see that the stab ram is under the master bathroom, question, is there any "working noise from them when under load", yes i know the motor n pump are in the e/r, but just wondered about the rams... THANKS JFM and fantastic thread to dream about when stuck on the M25.......sighhhhhhhhhh !!!!

I know it may be a bit late for Match2, but seeing a standard suction cleaner in one of the pics made me wonder if anyone installs central cleaning systems on big mobos. They are called centralised vacuum systems or something odd.

A socket in each cabin, so no lugging a big cylinder around for the maintenance staff, no recycling of dust within the cabin, much quieter and more discreet.

I have a 500Watt extraction system in the workshop, and the suction of the big (14 inch fan) is much much greater than the expensive 1300W Sebo domestic vac.

Great Pictures! Really nice of you to share the progress with us!

For your motorised 40 inch Samsung i recommend this: http://www.peopleoflava.com/mounts/mmotion-flip/

I have looked around a lot for a motorised tv control but the all does not stay in position during movement but this one "locks" in position. I have not had my delivery yet for my 32 inch Samsung but that is what Lava tells me....

Wow its going to be some boat I really enjoyed the MBY write up on Match1 sounds like fun and common sense to use the same hull knowing the boat and the team and learning from your experience with the last S78. Only two comments, bearing in mind your boat is quite out of my league, white caulking decks I think might cheapen it, its nice to retain some tradition in a boat now matter what type it is. I'm a bit worried about the trend towards square corners on units and furnishings maybe Match 2 will never be used in anger but if it was and I was trying to move about on board I wouldn't want to worry about which square bit my ribs were going to hit if I didn't make the next handrail! Good luck with the boat I'll look out for the next update.

For my F96 52" Samsung TV (now old, it was one of the very first LED TVs) there was an optional motorised wall mount, even controllable with the same TV remote!
I didn't need it for my placement, but I saw it working and it was an impressive gadget indeed, capable of rotating both horizontally and vertically.
Not sure if they still make anything similar - if not, maybe you could try to find one of those and adapt it to another TV? Just a thought, anyway.

Compliments for the new RIB dash. It's so much better than the original, that one should wonder if the builder ever gave it any thought at all.
It wouldn't have costed them one more penny, to make it that way from the start...

The thing with the TV mechanisms bought off the shelf is that they are too thick. You can see the "edge" of this TV as you enter the cabin, remeber, and i never want to see the mechanism. The TV is 29mm thick, and I want it planted on the wall (not recessed) surrounded by a 48x48 wenge "picture frame", so i want a mechanism that is only 15mm thick, and can withstand waves/marine life. You cannot buy that from a catalogue so I'm making a special out of laser cut components, all stianless steel. The electric actuator can be cut into the wall, inside a convenient void the other side

I totally agree about the RIB dash. As you say, the builder could have done it right for $0 extra. Some things about the boat world are really annoying MapisM.... :D

We road tested it in the flesh Johang. Alas, it is a bit flimsy imho. Lots of thin pressed steel components. I decided not to have it on the boat and Fairline don't like it either. (For this size TV at least). Especially in my case where the TV points aftwards, so the mechanism is always resisting the pull of the TV as the bow of the boat rises on the plane

Yup, Match 2 has central vacuum Sarabande :-)

I had a central vacuum system on a previous boat and it was really useful. In fact we've got one in our house too although, of course, it's far too complex for me to know how to operate it. If I was speccing a new boat myself, I'd definitely have one

thats a good idea, I never came across this idea, as I was never involved with vacuum cleaners,
but i believe I can win some good points with this from the lady's,
should be retrofittable in the bilges from BA I guess.

Yup white decks are perhaps are a bit marmite-like. Plenty of people wont like them, but i reckon plenty will, and I need some unique features that at least some people will like, in order to manage my residiual value. I cannot however think of any basis to associate them with "cheap". There is no relationship between cheap boats and white decks. The white costs several £k more even on my 24m boat, and loads of very not cheap boats have white decks: several Huismans including the stunning Twizzle, several CNBs including Chrisco, most Wallys of course, Norman Wisdom's beautiful Conquest, and many others I could mention

The bashing into furniture is really a bit of a non-issue in practice. In the weather this kind of boat normally sees, and with stabilisers + 60tonnes, you don't bash into furniture

Doesn't it depend on the level and strength of refreshment? :)

Hi Steve. There is a bit of noise from a stab system under master cabin floor, on any boat of this size. TBH it doesn't worry me. The noise is pretty small if you bleed all the air out and if the system is done well, and on Match 2 the stabs are behind the bulkhead that separates bathroom from cabin. But in any case I never run them overnight. I run without genset when anchored overnight becuase I hate the noise of a genset

(PS, I owe you some videos - will do when I get time to sort them out :D)

Fantastic pictures as always.. One quick question spings to mind when loking at the 3 boats in the factory.. how do they move the hulls out when complete? It looks like Match is sitting on a massive trailer - is that the trick?

Rob

Yup, the boat is on a trolley with a dozen big castors, and the boats move along the "production line" by dragging the trolley. The boats are all laser levelled on the trolleys to begin with, so that the fit-out guys can use ordinary spirit levels when doing internal joinery

At the end, the boats are lifted off the trolleys by a marina-style travel hoist, into a test tank, then onto a lorry

The pic below is taken from Match 1 flybridge, while she was in the test tank, showing the travelhoist and behind it Match1's trolley. (When this pic was taken they were lifting the eBay-sourced test Laser on, to finalise the chocks

Perhaps a stupid question JFM, but is the positioning of the stabilizers the exact same on M2 as M1? I recall some talk as to optimal fin positioning last time round.

Yes, exact same position. They worked really well on Match1 and I wouldn't want to change a thing

You need them close to the "turning centre" of the boat, otherwsie as they swoosh sideways at anchor they rotate the boat, and you dont want them too far forward else they can induce bow lift

Talking about Fire, (which you do in one of your earlier posts), I've often wondered if (and why not if they don't) boat manufacturers build the following into big boat designs:

1) sprinkler systems in the saloon / cabins
2) fire suppressant systems (e.g. halon or whatever is used now) in wiring panels and other areas at risk of electrical fires.

Sorry if this is a dumb question!

Ah yes that makes sense!

I stand corrected as I said your wonderful new boat is out of my league guess I was thinking more about my size, 14 meters! I'm just very jealous really looks amazing even in lay up form.
