Just a bit of a triviality: the name arrived from the excellent Yachtlite so I rigged it up on some white foam board. They tried a little experiment with block of red tinted acrylic and a super-bright red LED to create the look of a match. They would change it back to white if it didn't work, but I'm going to keep it

J - As a matter of interest; relative to how much customisation you have put into this particular SQ78, have you had any feedback from Fairline as to how you fair out on an average of other customisation requests, from other hulls (of similar stature)?
ie. Will this hull be the most customised? Have they dealt with more/stranger (etc.) requests on similar hulls?
IIRC you mentioned in the past, feedback from Fairline was that you'd reached your customisation/request limit, so I may have answered my own question. I'd still be interested to know the % (of that particular hull) that goes out 'bog standard' (do any??)

Toby's right - the compactor on Play d'eau only needs emptying once a week when my wife and I are on board.
The huge fun is when bottles are being crushed. You hear the scissor ram strain before there's an almightly 'bang' as the bottle breaks, followed by the sound of glass being crushed. Always makes us laugh, especially when you have a number of bottles and one goes off after the other! Champagne bottles are the best.

Just out of curiosity - I know you said the name had something to do with Swedish Match - did you work and live here in Sweden? And if so, did you do any boating here?

I really like the match effect. Is the red LED separately addressable (see, I do listen ) so that you can give the effect of it being lit as well as of being alight?

Fairline showed me the stats for the last 2 years, a while ago. I didn't keep notes, so am working from memory. Match 1 was iirc 2700hours of customisation, and there have been a few boats after Match 1, two boats in particular, that have used about 2000 hours. Match2 completely breaks the record, at 4000hrs, and that is after I have taken out some of the requests I initially made. Remember, it has everything Match1 had plus things like extra hull windows which take hours of work in blocking the mould then converting it back to how it was for the next boat
The hours feel high to me but this is because every mod is fully CADed, part numbers set up, and in some cases approvals from 3rd parties (regulatory, Olesinki's team, whatever) are needed plus the quality of the supply chain has to be checked (you don't want parts made by child labour in sweatshops on a boat, and you cannot have them if you care about your brand)
About half the boats built just have a few options ticked off the list, like watermaker etc, and are perhaps just 100-300 hours or so. It needs to be this way because the capacity of the line is such that they cannot handle several heavy customisations all at the same time. They need the "bog snadard" boats in between the customised boats

Yup, I've used them a lot - the Broan ones- in US homes. Good fun as you say. I'd love one but I've given it a lot of thought and there is no space I'm prepared to give up to fit one in. I have an insinkerator in the galley sink so all food waste goes down there, which means the bin sacks don't smell much and can be stored in the anchor locker

Years ago I worked in Sweden a lot on a few projects, in Stockholm, but I never lived there or boated there. The boating looks fantastic and in Stockholm there is a marina right there in the cityVery nice "match-effect" in the name!

how big are the garbage compactors and do they need access from the side as well?
[obviously never seen one in my life...]
what insinkerator did you go for? they all seem to be 220V which means genny is on when you work in the kitchen (which I'd like to avoid in my case with gas hobs...)
Any brands to avoid?

So indirectly you're telling us Match II (and I love the badge thingy) is really a bit small for all your toys?
IIRC the Sq 78 is the biggest Fairline do, so will you just get FL to stretch the 78 to say 84ft for Match III or will it be a totally different brand/boat?

They're standard height/depth of a washing machine so will fit under a kitchen counter top, and about 350mm wide. All access and operation is from the front - you pull open a drawer, drop in the trash, and shut it. A hydraulic piston crushes the trash. You use special strong plastc sacks and get "bricks" of compressed trash. Usual brand is Broan, from Canada I think. http://www.broan.com/products/product-line/trash-compactors
I use the Insinkerator brand of waste disposal unit. Works well - I have one at home too. Keeps rotting food out of the trash bags. 230v as you say but genset is running for 2 hours anyway for food prep and dishwasher afterwards
