Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

Apologies for the Fred Drift. Pearl HQ is just south of Stratford on Avon. The facility there builds the 60 footers. the smaller boats are contracted to a Turkish yard. As I understand things, the new 75 hull and superstructure is moulded in Taiwan, and shipped across to Portsmouth for the fit-out and finishing. Might check for detail with Inwards, as they are the UK dealer.
You know more than I do, rafiki. I'd be wondering which yard in Portsmouth has the skills and capability to fit out a 75 footer?

Sounds like a dream to me! TBH, I'm getting a bit fed up with all the creams/beiges in our boat now.

Love the link to those Zinc fabrics BTW :)
This thread is getting very girly now:) Lets get back to talking about bilge pumps and holding tanks

Isn't there a Halmatic yard or something like that that makes Pilot and other industrial boats (Nelsons as well on occasion). They'd have the core skills wouldn't they?
Halmatic are in Southampton I think but I'm not sure they'd have the skills to fit out a boat to a glitzy standard to match the likes of FairPrinSeeker. Anyway I'm sure that Pearl know what they're doing

For the record, are you sure Halmatic are in Southampton? I recall a big shed of theirs at the top of Portsmouth Harbour. Anyhow, I for also recall them building Superyachts so they would have the skills.

No I'm not sure. During my time in the Solent, they had a yard on the River Itchen in Southampton but they may well have a yard in Portsmouth too. Are you sure you're not referring to Camper & Nicholson? They certainly would be capable of fitting out a 75 footer but AFAIK they're more in the superyacht market

How far did Palmer Johnson get with their facility to build superyachts? Maybe they had partially finished facilities that Pearl have bought, or someone else bought it and is fitting them out under contract?

Nope, a search for "Halmatic Superyacht" yields results. But Halmatic was sold to Vosper and then to BAE so god know what's left.

Really looking forward to watching this progress - many thanks for sharing this JFM.

Regarding the additional fuel tank, will this be located in the same position as Match1? I remember some discussions during Match1's build regarding the placement of the tank under the master bed and whether returned fuel to the tank would cause excessive heating in that area - did this ever become an issue?

I saw the Pearl 75 before the boatshow moored up for a few days just past the most southern part of Gosport Marina - so guessing it may have been fitted out somewhere near there .....

i'd be really tempted to spec one of the gennies just big enough to run the stabs, fridges and boil a kettle, but make it super quiet. We rarely run the air con or heating at anchor, so we would benefit from less noise most of the time, and less fuel usage, in exchange for a bit less redundancy. I'm sure you've thought it through though.

.

Nick, you might want to check out the Mastervolt GPX series. Might be exactly what you are looking for.

I also love the zinc site and have it bookmarked for next house / boat refit!

Let me know when you have dates organised for the big nightclub tour...

Here are a few more pics from today kindly sent by the Essex Boatyards team. First pic is the hull, still in mould but with all its frames glassed in. It’s gonna be nice and stiff, and there is still the internal moulding to be bonded onto these frames (hence no flo coat on the top surfaces of the frames. Camera man is standing just in front of the bulkhead twixt master cabin and e/room. Frame at bottom of pic is level with foot of master cabin bed and space aft of it is where the 3rd fuel tank goes

Next shot, below, is taken from same spot but cameraman has spun round clockwise to view engine room. Engine bearers are all made. Again, there is an internal moulding still to go in here to line the engine room and strengthen the structure, before the machinery is installed. Bulkhead top right separates e/room from crew/utility space. Bulkhead bottom left is front of engine room made from a sandwich of marine ply, rigid foam and a sound deadening layer

Pic below shows the floor of the aft utility crew space. Another internal moulding will go in here. To help get bearings I’ve put red circles where the P brackets will be bolted

Close up of engine bearers. The Cat C32 engines that will sit on these weigh nearly 3 tonnes each
03201231OctOundle6.jpg

This is the master cabin space, before internal moulding, looking aft – the bulkhead hides the e/room. You can see the stabiliser holes. Space at bottom right of pic will house the 3rd fuel tank, under the master cabin bed

This is looking across the boat, bow to right stern to left, in the front part of the engine room. Bulkhead separates master cabin from e/room, and main fuel tanks will go across the boat up to this bulkhead. The 1.5inch s/s pipe is for black waste – this is part of my completely re-worked black tank system (I’ll make another post describing that in a bit)

Pictures below show the flybridge deck moulding/saloon roof. Early stages of lay up.

Swim platform gelcoated. Won’t be needing this for a while :-)
03201231OctOundle14.jpg

Pic below shows the deck moulding. This is a complex shape and runs from the hull-deck joint, up to the gunwhale, down the inside of the bulwarks, across side decks, and up the saloon sides. From bow to stern. It’s nice to be able see here how you hardly ever have rain/spray leaks with a continuous moulding this big. The deep slot at the side is the bulwark – it’s pretty awkward for the laminators to work down such a slot
03201231OctOundle15.jpg

This last pic is taken from same spot as above pic, but cameraman has turned anticlockwise to show the underside of the aft deck, which is the ceiling of the crew cabin, plus the transom. You can see the passerelle tunnel at right a bit hidden by the guy, and you can see the recess for my custom crew cabin window created by adding a rectangular block to the mould

I’m really pleased with how it’s coming along. Early days obviously, but the hull feels nice and strong. Fairline and Essex are being ever helpful and we are trading emails on everything from switch panels design to table lamps. They’re a great team to work with.

Yup, identical position Matt. With Match1 hot fuel was never a problem - the fuel was returned to the main tanks not this one (that's how I set the vlaves, at least) and anyway the Cat C32 engines have seawater return fuel coolers. So this tank was a total success on Match1 and Match 2 will have a copy. Fairline have built 4 or so boats with this tank since Match1 so it has become a popular cutomisation request
