Boat hook thingy

Had a bit of a struggle picking up the waiting buoy off Calais marina a few weeks back, my SWMBO is only a wee slip of a girl and we have fairly high topsides. I had to lift the buoy on a conventional boat hook until it was high enough for her to thread the line. It was b****y heavy!!, and its not the first time we've had this problem.
I keep seeing these magic boat hook thingys that thread the line for you - has anyone experience of these, which ones really work, and which chandler stocks them (on line preferably) ?

I use the type that just returns the rope to you after putting it through the ring - I find it very easy to use and very useful. I made sure I got the telescopic version though. Sorry I cannot remember what it is called but will try and look it up.

We've used both the threading type, and the one that transfers a detachable hook, with a trip line (which you can see here).

More often than not we use the hook - it only requires you to 'catch' the ring and the job is done. The 'threader' requires the eye to be facing the right way (if its in line with you you cant get it), and not to spin as you push it on. Th bosco hook is quite strong anough to use to lift even heavy bouys to thread a line.

best bit of kit going, in my view better than a hook because you don't have to get the hook off the mooring bouy.

Thanks David - I'd actually tracked the same bit of kit and ordered it 10 mins before your post. Glad to hear your happy with it, cos at 60 notes I thought it a bit expensive - but if it makes SHMBO's life easier???.......

Yes I thought it expensive, I dithered over buying one for months, I'm glad I did though. I had one of the plastic types before but found that troublesome to use, these are great though, no problem to pick up a mooring even single handed.
