Urgently need to move a 31 Motor Projects 5 tonne from Staines to Egham (5.5 miles via road route)

Have only have had one quote for transport which does not include cranage at either end. Hoping for a low loader with a hiab who can handle this as an 'all in one' job.

Have emailed a few other firms - no quotes forthcoming and have tried a 'national quote finder' website - no quotes.

Needs to be within 10 days.

Anyone?

Many thanks

I think it unlikely you will find a Hiab equiped truck to manage that size of load. I would prepare yourself for having to pay for lift off and on! Would like to be wrong because if you manage to find such a truck I for one would be interested in their details. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Dash300

I was hoping for a company that either had a hiab on board (it was delivered to the last owner like that) or could arrange the crane service at either end at the moment I have one quote for the move and no one quoting for a crane..

Das Hockey Cokey?

volvopaul,

It's on hard standing a mile from the river...on an industrial estate, if it wasn't I'd just stick an outboard on it!

Try BR Saunders Transport they are or were based in Walton on Thames Tel No - 01932 245161.
They run a fleet of rigid and articulated vehicles equipped with large hiab type cranes.
No connection other than I used them about 5 x years ago to move some large cabins and cable drums.
The work was done on time as quoted with no problems.
If no joy with them you could try SD Tenant Ltd, although Wakefield based their crane equipped low loaders are frequently in the London area. Their MD is a boating man so would know what you are talking about.
I only have a mobile number for them and do not wish to put that on a public forum so will PM it to you.
Although no personal connection I have used them for moving various plant and wide loads around the country with out any problems over the last 2 x years.
Hope this may be of some help.

Thanks MJGH - Found SD Tenant on ebay as per Freebee and have requested a quote - no website for BR Saunders, but will give them a call in the am.

Thanks again.

That size load is nothing for the right truck mounted crane/Hiab.....no problem whatsoever.

Forget emails, waste of time in first instance, regarded by movers as just somebody fishing around for cheapest price.
Get onto interweb, get phone numbers and ring all and sundry and do not expect to haggle to much over price at such short notice.
There may be somebody looking to fill in blanks between other boat moves.
On my last move the truck was going to Scotland from Lincs and then down to Devon and back to Lincs.
My move from N Wales to North Kent fitted in OK.
Company in North Wales will Hiab up to 35ft .

Whenever I am the OP I always try and finish off a posting.

Deadline to move boat was by Saturday 15/07/2017 as yard owners changed.

Rang SD Tennant as a last resort on Monday 10/07/2017 (Yorkshire) who came to the rescue (in London) with a truck and hiab for a 5 1/2 mile trip.

Lifted, tied down, trucked, untied and dropped with professionalism and care - even though my boat is a bit of a wreck. They took the stress out of the whole thing and the driver was pure gold.

Nice to see that there is still a 'can do' attitude in this country, although you have to go to Yorkshire to find it.

Thanks to all who replied with their suggestions.

Must admit have found folks outside the M25 "Ring of Gold " are a little more interested in at least trying to take my money.

Hi oldgit, I know the feeling - I'd say it's further than the M25 - it's up to Watford Gap now.

I'm embarrassed to be a Londoner - never thought I'd say that, but between the 'Barrow Boys' and the 'Public School Boys' they have royally 'messed up'.

It's ridiculous. I need some help on a strategy to modify and put back in the water a 1960's river cruiser - it was fitted with inboard / outdrives but these were removed (as per usual) by someone further down the line - which is basically a boats death warrant. I bought the hull and want to convert to outboards and need some transom stress advice etc. Was happy to commission an expert for appropriate advice.

Found a 'reputable' marine engineer who wasn't interested himself per se, but would arrange for a colleague to email me (fair enough). After a couple of reminders I heard nothing further - not even a 'Sorry old boy - not our kind of thing - try so-and-so under the railway arches.' It's just pure discourtesy - I have a good mind to start naming names but it would be free publicity to these people, especially as the boat may create a bit of media interest when finished, but why waste my time if not interested by saying so at the outset. Grrr.

Rant over (and out).

PS Any one know how to strengthen a transom to take a couple of 150 four strokes and mounts ..? And what thickness bulkheads and diameter of the steel reinforcing cage under the foredeck gun turret for the twin M2HB .50 calibre Brownings?

Think I would look for a naval architect for the transom modifications, not sure where you will find one but I'm sure Google should help

Hi Jeepster - its GRP...thought it might have been a Marine Projects 31 built in '69, but it doesn't seem like it when comparing photos with other similar types around at the time...

I need to dig a little more before I go further.
