Boat fridge

Now fitted the new CRE50 Dometic fridge, piece of cake as only needed to take a few mm off the rubber feet to fit in the existing hole. exactly the same gubbins as the CRX but with a cheaper exterior panelling and no salad draw, cost £485 posted. Strangely according to the spec the fridge cools colder than the CRX, certainly more than cold enough on the second setting. Photos lying down again ? ?

I fitted a Penguin fridge for two reasons: the refrigeration unit is separate so it can be tucked behind the fridge in a dead space and doesn't take up valauable fridge area. It is 12v/240v and automatically switches when shore power is connected. Very happy with it, now been in use 7 years.

Bought a new fridge, Dometic CRE, around £100 less than the CRX. I’ll sell the old fridge as ‘requires regas’....

Looks good. I bought a CRX50 in May 2016 and it's failed. Pretty sure it's the compressor as I've had the controller tested, so it looks like a new one.

I was about to splurge on a new CRX50 at £550, when I saw this thread. Good to see your photos of the CRE, it looks fine and it's only £490 at Jacksons Leisure, (£500 inc delivery I think).

If I dont pay for more diagnostics on my existing one, I think it's going to be the CRE50 :)

Did you manage to sell the old fridge?

I'm going to put a plug in for the CDF 35 to use as a freezer , we been thinking of buying one for some time ,

Hi Vic, I see the specs state 50w, is the 3.5-4 amps you stated is that just when compressor is running, or the average per hour? Any ideas what the amp hour usage would be over say 24 hours?

It's been about 2/2.5A an hour over night here in the Med in oct if that's any help.
I been keeping a close eye on my batteries lately and I using just over 4.2A an hour avg over the whole 10 hour night with fridge and freezer working only

Just a heads up on Dometic brands.

There is also a brief on their history, since 1925, on the site.

98 years in business. Impressive, me thinks.

A family operated business in Germany set out to challenge the fridge market dominators.

They use domestic boxes that fit the space of most well-known models, add their "own" compressor etc. and cost notably less.

Belluna

Import et al to the UK will be needed and may be a show stopper, but for those able to shop in the EU..

Both fridge/freezer and wine cooler are domestic 240v units and run off the inverter when at anchor, very little current draw once down to operating temperature which is done whilst on shore power.20230715_164306.jpg
