Boat fall tragedy in Weymouth

If I recall (and it occurred some years ago now) QAB was hit by some pretty extraordinary weather, and the limited CCTV (before it went blank) showed the boats actually being lifted upwards and sideways in the wind. Obviously no side support if the boat lifts slightly. Hence why in a lot of overseas yards strap boats down to very secure ground points, as well as using what they call 'hurricane cradles'.
And yes - 1 boat goes, normally a few boats go - like dominoes.

You can see the cradles here:

They were introduced after about five boats were blown over there on a previous occasion. It is a particular corner, if you look to the SW from there, the nearest land in on the north coast of Spain.

Boats do create a lot of lift in high winds; Graham's set up in post 116 is a good one, cheeks and wedges to the keel/cradle might be considered for the very worst of conditions. Here is a snap showing the movement of my keel:

A few more inches and that would have been it.

Are you sure?
On enlarging that photo it is very "grainy" but there is no evidence of any cradles tipped over with the yachts that one can see. & one might expect to see at least a couple go over with the vessel. Neither can one see any legs still standing.

I think you are being rather too full of doubt about what locals have told you.

The storm and its results were well documented. Try this Pataenius site for a close up of collapsed cradles.

If that's your motor boat in the first pic, I would be fitting a centreline shore forward, before she hogs any more. I thought at first that she did have a shore, and then realised that the one shown, belongs to the boat behind.

yes it is, and now back in the water. The vast majority of weight is well aft, 600liters of fuel and a very big lump of iron. No issues with her tipping forward. Maybe the angle of the photo looks a little off putting.. When she is lifted out the water the front sling point is further back than where the front blocks are she is sitting on.
