See if you can get a Blue Seas Catalogue out of Merlin Equipment (01491-824333). Blue Sea stuff is pricey but very good but the diagrams in the catalogue will give you some very clear advice. Nigel Calder's book 'The Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual' is very good but a big book and costs £25. It does however go into lots of other useful mechanical things.

Also have a look at the PBO one - Electrics Afloat. Some very clear diagrams - the same as those shown in the magazine.

I have this weighty book:

MARINE ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS BIBLE
Author:payne, John C
ISBN: 0713657243

Seems that there is now a newer version available (mine has white cover with green lettering, new version has facy photographic cover). A bit expensive, but seems to go into reasonable detail on most if not all subjects. Possibly a little too deep for every one needs, but suits me.

Jeff.
