Boat Cover recommendations

Need to get a cover made that can be put on whilst the boat is on the water and not too heavy as i need to carry it around.

i know they are designed to get wet but it just doesn't feel right and would like to be able to leave the lockers open under cover to let some air flow and protect the tubes at the same time.

Any recommendations in the southampton area?

We had one done for the last rib which was good but very heavy.

we already have one for when the boats out of the water on trailer but this fixes with straps under the hull which clearly isn't practical.

He has been making covers for us using Odyssey fabric which is very lightweight and folds up into lockers easily.

Go for Tecsew in Gosport. Excellent job, drum tight and sensibly made. Not the cheapest, the Waitrose of covers!

Check out ebay for ducksback covers less than £100 waterproof & breathable we have one for our 4 m rib & it's fine won't last as long as a more expensive cover but cheap enough to replace every couple of seasons
Even expensive covers go grotty after a few years

It's very light, easy to move. Ask to your craftsman.

Maybe get a few quotes from recommended cover makers. Each will have similar ideas but also possible unique ideas.
You will obviously have a rough idea in mind so they should create and manufacture to your specification but one guy may pick up on a design flaw or piece of design brilliance.

So in the end whoever makes your cover, you can suggest all the best bits from each quote.

I used to always stitch a little internal clear pocket inside sprayhoods for mobile phones and keys. Guys loved them.

You're right about Tecsew not being the cheapest! I've just used A1 Covers from Bursledon (Karen) ... made a beautiful tight fitting tonneau cover and a front and rear cockpit enclosure for a 30ft motor boat with radar arch at an extremely good price ... stuck to her quote. All tight fitting and very well made with extra zips, toggles, windows etc all perfect ... I would highly recommend them. (no connection etc)

good thinking but if you had seen my christmas present wrapping you would realise its not gonna look pretty.

have spoken to all the companies mentioned on this thread and one more. some have replied, others haven't, will wait to see what the quotes are like... you never know, we might even have a working boat soon too!

I tried that, the sewing machine, not being on mumsnet as burgundybarbara, making covers is trickier than you'd think.
