Boat conversation with wife……..to day

At which point one has to explain that such features are only available on yachts less than x years old, longer than y feet long, which sail like a dream, have all the latest gear, and will cost all of her inheritance, but you reluctantly agree she should have what she wants. 😁 :devilish:
I am amazingly lucky that she calmly accepted these obvious facts.

A boat conversation with the wife from history.....

Me....if you let me have this boat I won’t ever ask for another....

That’s it....short and sweet.... I completely forgot about it over the years (men say stupid stuff at boat shows)....but always it comes back to haunt me

Prior to buying Sheolin.
Me. . . “I need a bigger boat.” .. . Her . . “Yes dear, but can you afford it?” (Note the ‘you’, not the royal ‘we’)
Me . . . “No, but that’s never stopped me before.” . . . Her . . .”Okay then, if you’re sure.”
Me (on the phone). “I’ve Found a bigger boat. Come and have a look.” Her . . . “Okay, be right over.”
She liked it,
I bought it.
She’s a keeper that wife of mine.

ME: I like the Moody 36
MOODYS: We've stopped making it, but the 38 is the same price and bigger.
HER: I can't get off it! It's got too high freeboard.
ME: Let's look at HR36.
HER: OK
ME: Now I can afford it I don't like it!!!
Some while later
HER: Come and look at this, I think you'll like it.
ME: We wanted a centre cockpit. And it's too expensive.*
HER: It's lovely and you'll never be able to afford it again. Buy it.
So we bought a Malo 36.

* Included were such things as pressurised water, hot water system, fenders, mooring lines, instruments of your choice until when comparing HR and Malo the price was near identical.

Closer inspection of photos which I hadn’t noticed on my viewing was the provision for a row lock on the transome of the Gibsea 242 although a boarding ladder has been bolted on to the transom whether this affects the use of a sculling oar will have to be checked.Certainly the boat is a fron runner at the momment .Further conversation with the wife she threw doubt on my choice saying ,how she found out ,😳would I use it like a shed staying mostly in the marina or down the cafe. This creates a dilema as the other choice is a benetaue Baraduer with a good inboard but certainly lacking in internal fit out……but is considerably cheaper😏.Iam unable to decide so putting off the problem till after Christmas.

. . . toss a coin.

(Your heart will then pop up and say either 'OK', or 'Oh, no! I wanted the other one!'.
And then you'll have your answer.)

Sold the last boat and can sympathise with @Wansworth as buying the replacement is taking a lot longer than I had hoped.

Obviously discussed at length with the First Mate and she insisted on contributing the following requirements ... most of which are non-negotiable.
  • Master cabin with good view outside.
  • Clean contemporary interior - must be bright, spacious and airy with plenty of light - veto on dark wooden interiors.
  • Galley separate from living area.
  • No top opening fridge - Fridge must have front opening.
  • Freezer - allowed to be top opening.
  • Separate shower cubicle in heads.
  • Space for sunbathing on foredeck.
  • Big shaded cockpit for sundowners, entertaining and lounging.
  • Swim platform or sugar scoop with swim ladder and shower.
  • Enough battery power to run her hairdryer every morning.
  • Washing machine.
  • Absolute veto on any damp/mould/leaks/grubby surfaces or bad smells - similar veto on project boats, boat must be as new as possible.
  • Must buy proper mattresses as first priority after purchase.
  • Good anchor setup where the chain doesn't pile up under the windlass.
  • Space for her windsurfer and SUP.
..... so not that demanding.

So it is a trip to Australia then.

Schionning Wilderness 1480

Here you go Baggie how about a Tayana 48? OK she's got a wood interior and there isn't a panoramic view from the aft cabin (aka Mrs Baggie's bedroom).
Looks like a gorgeous boat, it would unfortunately get vetoed for the size of the cockpit and the clambering required to get from cockpit to swim platform. ... there is also the small problem of it being over budget.

This is more the sort of thing she has in mind ...
