Boat carpet fitter or just a decent carpet fitter (non boaty)

So I have decided the best flooring option for Boadicea following the engine refit will be to re-carpet.

Do I seek a marine carpet specialist or a normal domestic carpet fitter ?

Any recommendations for some one in the Hamble area ?

Having a similar style boat our saloon gets a lot of use so we have been thinking of something hard wearing and easy to clean. Here are a couple of options we are considering:

Teak Carpet

Woven vinyl

No help to you but a normal local carpet fitter did a boat near us and it looks like a factory fit.
The fitter has to be interested in doing the job.

Chap on the mooring behind me (Princess 45) bought the carpet he wanted from one of the regular chain carpet outlets,then cut the carpets to size himself.
The clever bit was finding somebody local to bind all the carpet edges which gave the appearance of an highly professional and neat job.
This skipper is fussy and not short of a bob or two but eventually gave up trying to find any carpet fitter to take the job on.
The bound carpets can be lifted and removed at anytime to access hatches etc

I fitted new carpets in our sealine 360 most of it was glued down to removable boards , I took them home and did it there , It’s nothing like fitting carpets in a house , I can’t imagine a domestic carpet fitter would have done as good job as I did , all you need is bit patience some sharp carpet scissors and knives , and some impact adhesive, and take your time , I wouldn’t trust a normal carpet fitter they don’t do stuff like this

If you can cope with well fitted mats then its a relatively easy DIY - buy your carpet invest in someVG carpet scissors (Amazon £45'ish - amazing) and cut the mats yourself and then find a professional company to bind the edges - I did the whole of our Aquador 32 for less than £150 incl the scissors excl carpet as I has some left over from our very recent house move - I used HD lining paper to make a template of tricky areas like the internal steps

I (my wife, anyway) wanted new carpets at the start of the 2019 season - I went to a small carpet business (in Oban, so not much help for the Hamble area), who mainly did domestic and small commercial work, but were quite happy to recommend, measure, supply, and cut carpet for my boat 20 miles away. They could also have arranged binding, but as that would have meant sending the cut carpets to Glasgow and taking several weeks, it was easier for me to take the bits to somewhere local who could do it in a couple of days. As there are a lot more boats kept in your location, there are probably a few businesses that could do it for you locally.

Trevor, we had ours done by a specialist who also reupholstered the saloon seating in leather. Price was spot on. Unfortunately not much help to you as I think they have either folded or re-named, based in the Midlands, and ex Sealine OE.
How is the engine rebuild?

I used a local carpet fitter and they had the carpet bound on the edges. I used stainless steel poppers to hold the carpet down and glue for the Steps.

How is the engine rebuild?

The engine is now ready for its final sea trial, so the next stage is to reinstate the cabin, which for the main part is the flooring / carpet.

I resolved an issue with the cooling system today, which was basically air locked.

I have also had an annoying leak somewhere keep filling the bilge ~ 1- 2 litres per day, which today I found to be sea water dripping from the hose connection to the port engine inlet, so two problems resolved.
