HI All
My home port is Gros Morne, Newfoundland , Canada. Last summer I bought a boat house to add to my tourist cottages that are located on the same property so now it is complete. Ny passion in life is The Traditional Newfoundland motorboat powered by make and break engines or Put PUt's. I have engaged the services of a master boat builder and plan on doing like a learning vacation where as the students live in the cottages, we build the boat of course sail her and the rest of the vacation is bonus. The boats we call them punts or maybe u would call them a skiff using chopped/cut juniper and fir planking measure 21 ft in length usual power 4-6h.p. engine. So I am putting it all together anyone interested e-mail me. I want to start in May with the first at cost to get the bugs out of the course. We are cutting the timbers now and will have some ribs cut to start as 7 days is not a lot of time. u will stay in my cottages they are quite nice and again in Gros Morne located right on the Ocean. So anyone with any info or input please contact me.
Thanks
Joe

Sounds sort of interesting, though you might want to expand somewhat on what you are actually offering, and putting the vast majority of your text into plain english so everyone can understand?

Sounds like a good idea.I read a book about a Newfoundland schooner which described the petrol motor as a "bullgine".

Is that a word to describe a particular type of engine?

I would love to visit the area sometime, unfortunately it cannot be this year.Best of luck with the project.

HI Again
I must say that this a popular spot. To answer Machurley's question you are correct but the engine does not have to be stopped. The engine is 2 cycle and operates on an ignitor which is similar to points, you stop the ignitor by disconnecting the power and when the engine is about to fail you reconnect the power again thus the engine spins in reverse. To grahms response yes that is a word that Brendan will have to translate for you as he seems to be the English major here. But relax Brendan it seems that you were bored last night or I was rather interesting as per the number of posts you recorded. Another name for the engines again slang is "One Lungers" I will try and find a list of some of the engines that were made your way, one very popular and proven engine is of course the Lister. Brendan my goal is to provide all accomidations, boat building school, a master boat builder, materials and engine then the client spends a week here in Newfoundland where as we build a boat then sail her. Gotta run

Hi Brendan
Thanks for being serious. Most Americian sites are charging about $2000.00 for everything food materials and accomidations. I will start the first couple of courses for $1200.00 Canadian that is everything but airfare. The reason that I want the British market isthat I can get some good deals on the flight to Nfld. There is a new resort that opened here about a month ago their planes come once a week every Wednesday and are not full. I have some nice cottages that are right near the boat house so I have most things in place now. At present we are harvesting timbers and will have most pre cut so most of the work will be assembly, yet we will do some timbers. The boat is a very old design but I have two and just love them.
regards
Joe

I'm being serious for a good reason. Most people who try to advertise on these forums get bumped off with very short thrift, and very little good will. If someone had taken hold and asked the moderators to remove the thread, it would have disappeared without trace

I recognise a serious effort when I see one, and will happily keep bumping this particular thread back to the top. I love the idea of keeping traditional skills alive, and there might be a few on the forums who would like to participate, though it's an expensive trip to make a boat.

In terms of marketing, some good write up of the area, pictures etc would go down well. Do you need help in this area, there are sales and marketing people with a lot of experience here

Do you have any pictures or details of your cottages, and even better, some pictures of the sort of boat you will be building.

Do people coming on your courses need any skills, woodworking etc, or will complete novices be welcome?
