I picked Sunseeker, not because they have the best product but certainly the best brand value.

important to all those oiligarchs who dont give a fudge about the credit crunch.

Ideally I would have picked Princess as well, on a product basis.

I think the most at risk is Sealine. Some excellent boats, but some odd big models, funded by the yanks, mortaged up to the hilt and owned by a group with some massive overheads and a load of companies all in the leisure sector.

Jez,

My thoughts exactly.

The question pre-supposes that its the best products that will get them through the recession, rather than the best marketing, management, funding, etc.

Can you please support them, at least till I have completed there current orders, and they are paid for.

This forum is getting very depressing.

With the Fairline guys being asked to work a three day week, they are equally in a place we wouldn't want them to be.

Lets hope they both survive, as they're are some of the best boats around, and British!

Brian, I know you make the clever electronic bits that go behind the Sealine panels but do you make the panels? My cockpit panel is starting to look tatty.

I am not not supporting them - I just think that they are the most at risk of the UK big four because of who ownes them and the country where most of the funding comes from (USA).

I think the new model range they are bringing forward is typical Sealine - dynamic, fresh and diffierent.

We made all the panels on the 3 digit numbers, Taplins and TP did the 2 digit numbers.

The ones we did are here

If you can e-mail a photo I can look at a replacement, you can even have some input!!

am looking at adding later model spares to our spare part range, any comments from later owners welcome.

Re Sealine I would put them nearer to Princess, but I think Spring will tell us more.

I m not sure its necessarily the best product that will pull through, more the financial strength of the company, especially re debt.
As regards the part time, that seems very sensible- keep the qualified workforce, and stop building so many boats when the imminent demand for them seems uncertain. I m not sure it doesnt mean they wont pick up production again a bit next year .

Just taking another tack on this one. Princess showed the most confidence, I thought, at the Barcelona Boat show.

... and apparently they are planning to show the entire model range at LIBS, including the 95my, the 85my and the V85.

Cheers

if it will be about a year
I think many builders will surive this, some will come out stronger of this others will look weaker
I tihnk it all depends how the safes of these builders are filled up at the moment, the more they are filled the better to survive the crunch

i would bet money on at least 2 of the 4 going bust. With GM about to go bankrupt I cant see how boatbuilders going to get through unscathed. Their only hope is if they built big cash reserves through charging everyone silly money for shiny bits of plastic in past and slash costs and production to get through this.
Most people still dont appreciate damage this credit crunch monster going to inflict. This wont be a normal recession, going to be an m&s recession of 1930s proprtions.
