Having looked at their site, no one in their right mind would buy one. But if anyone was thinking of buying one of them the now should not. I think a MoBo Forum boycott of this company should now take place....
They are a set of *ankers in my mind, they are shooting their own feet because the first rung of the ownership of boats are old boats like mine and if we can,t afford to run them we won,t be buying theirs later on in life after kids ,mortgages etc.
I cannot believe that such a self interested statement should be made such ***kers.
I agree they are shooting themselves in the foot and I for one will be seeing to it that I do all that I can to point out the self interested sanctimonious nature of this company.
We really should boycott them and let them know.
I have sent the MD an email explaining just want I think of them and why!
Unbelievable that a boating company could do that, i think a letter needs to go to Michael Lyttle and advise him of what a total crock of self-centred [--word removed--] their letter to him is. I can only hope that Lyttle works on facts gathered not on 'marketing propaganda'
Ecocats Ltd designs and builds catamaran powerboats for the commercial and
leisure sectors in the UK.
We are concerned that the UK government may seek to extend the current
derogation on red diesel, which will have the effect of continuing to distort
the market for leisure marine craft in favour of un-environmentally friendly
designs.
We believe taxpayer-subsidised diesel encourages the purchase of wide-beam
planing craft which require large-capacity diesel engines and high fuel
consumption in order to move at design speed. Modern, environmentally-friendly
catamaran designs which require one third of the fuel and cause one third of
the environmental damage of planing boats are being discriminated against by
the UK government's current stance.
It is our view that the distortive effect of current legislation cause an
un-necessary and damaging excess of the following:
• gas and particulate pollution related to global warming
• sound pollution
• environmentally damaging wash / wake
• materials needed to build high-impact planing boats
As a marine boat builder, we call on the UK government to end the availability
of red diesel for leisure boating. Current policy is out of date and
irresponsible in the light of the increasing evidence of climate change and
its association with the burning of fossil fuels.
A level playing field will result in the uptake of far more environmentally
friendly leisure boat designs.
We hope the UK government will decide not to argue for an unlimited extension
to this unnecessary, damaging dilution of normal market pressures toward
environmentally-friendly boating.
yes most big ones will because it will shift the balance - that leaves many smaller boats who have onwers that struggle to keep them and use them being hit hard.
This is outrageous. I can't believe the brazen self interest this barsteward has demonstrated. It's one thing to voice an opinion based on objectively held principles but quite another to shaft the rest of the industry for his own ends. Not even sailboat manufacturers have sunk this low. The best thing that can happen is that this gets published in the mobo mags to maximize his shame
Our friend, victoraspey, usually defends cats to the hilt. C'mon Victor, whats your opinion
Just has a chat with the MD for a news story I'm doing, and he does concede that he has got his facts wrong (taxpayer-subsidised diesel) but he denies selling out the rest of the industry for his own commercial gain. My readers will, I'm sure, draw their own conclusions.
They've already made them! He has removed the "header" saying who the letter was addressed to and re-worked the third para to remove the bit that says "taxpayer-subsidised diesel".
