BNC Adaptor

Is there such a thing as a BNC to hand held screw in antenna adaptor ?
The hand held helical antenna only appears to have a single connection, no screen connection.

A BNC, is a Bayoneted 'N' Connector and as such has lugs each side to lock in place.

I think you are referring to a brass antenna mount which comprises a ¼-inch diameter threaded blind hole which is designed to accept an helical stubby antenna which basically is only a single wire connection?

What are you trying to affix or achieve?

Correct - except you can get TNC connectors as well as in "Threaded N Connector."

The OP needs to check if the threaded connector is a standard size TNC and if it is then an adapter is an easy off the shelf item.

They look like this:

Only you can get them a lot cheaper than the Farnell price!

Don't go too cheap as the best ones are silver plated with gold plated connectors so don't buy the cheapest.

Handhelds usually have an SMA connector or a proprietary connector. If the latter they usually sell an adapter to BNC. The Icom M71, for instance, has an SMA connector but other brands have their own unique connector. This information is often given in the manual.

Somewhere like Nevada or Martin Lynch will do the connector.

It sounds like you need something like an SMA to BNC, but check whether it's SMA, SMB, SMC etc. on Wikipedia.

PS BNC = Bayonet Neill-Concelman Connector - not related to an N-connector.

What I'm trying to achieve
I am putting a antenna on top of the mizzen which will terminate in a BNC for my AIS.
I keep my hand held near the AIS box so thought it would be handy to be able to screw in an adaptor in place of the helical to use the hand held with a high antenna as a backup if the main antenna goes fut.
So I need a TNC with a screw on its bottom end. If they don't come off the shelf then I could make one up to give it a try.

A TNC is quite large. I've never seen a handheld using one.

Damn ! What hope have I got, I mean a male BNC with a screw on the other end

You need one these:

Not necessarily from this vendor - others will have it.
Or, if the attachment to the handheld is a proprietary design you'll need to contact the manufacturer for the adapter.

A lot of hand held VHFs have a single antenna connection with no ground.
You cannot easily fit a coax to that.
Others, like my old Swiftech, have a BNC.
There are a lot of different coax connectors out there, some of which you can readily get BNC adaptors for, and others which are obscure.
